Hi All,
On the advice of Ahead's Techsupport because of a suspected crashed first install, I need to deinstall/reinstall Nero but the add/remove programs wizard is halting at this error when trying to remove Nero.

"wizard was interuppted before Nero - Burning Rom could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation, pls run setup again".

There is a repair option for Nero, but you need to run the program's setup again which just produces"fatal error during installation" error.

I have no problems uninstalling Nero's sister programs (Nero Media and InCd) without errors. So it looks like I am left to manually uninstalling Nero unless there is a way around it.

Does anyone know how (files/locations/registry etc) to do a manual uninstall of Nero on an xp pro pc? Ahead's website info points only to 95/98/NT and after a week of no replies from them I want to get this done...

pc specs
PII 433/768 mgs
XP Pro build 2600
Nero 5.5.7.8
InCD 3.23
Nero Media 1.2.2.8

Norton's AV 2002 (disabled at time of any installs)
Norton's PFW 2002 (disabled at time of any installs)

Many thx for your help

Are you another Norton victim????????????????????????? Disable all that stuff and try again. I'm having problems, but not that bad. Install with Norton disabled in all phases. OK//I can't read!!! So whats new. You are screwed! Do a search for files and start deleting. Did you try the Nero uninstall option or windows?

PS// Norton has a remove other programs feature also.

Try removing the Nero entry from: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall then you should be able to reinstall.

Hi celtic_druid

are you referring to this string?

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstal l\{A4D7B764-4140-11D4-88EB-0050DA3579C0}

this is the only key (appearing on the left) that displays any info re: Nero on the right. Do I remove the entire string on the left? Or just something out of the string appearing on the right? And since I am using xp pro, will just the system restore, restore the registry back if something goes wrong or do I need to back up (and how?) the entire registry?

many thanks
Teri

It is listed as "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\Nero - Burning Rom!UninstallKey" on mine.

If that is the listing for Nero on yours, it means that it installed using Install shield. I can't think why Nero would use install shield on yours and not mine though.. However if it does, then you probably need to look at the info and delete the install shield files as well as the registry entry.

Try 5.5.8! Did you get it fixed?

you know I'm about to scream here!

I have manually deinstalled everything connected with Nero and it's sister programs, which included going thru the registry to remove every last bit of Nero info, according to the instructions posted on Ahead's techsupport.
I did a complete registry and HD search on anything and everything Nero related. Then I made sure Norton's AV and Norton's PFW was disabled and retried a complete reinstall and would you believe I am still getting the same errors.

1. fatal error on install
2. wizard was interrupted before Nero - Burning Rom could be completely installed...

Is it possible that Norton's PFW or Norton's AV (even though they were disabled) stored some install info on this program and is blocking it's reinstall?

I would but I don't own a copy and it is not "trialware".
There was a couple of other ones that were freeware but I am not sure how they run on xp pro...meanwhile, guess I'm stuck until Ahead responds...

thx for all your help
