83bj60 Mar 28, 2002, 11:15 AM The firmware for the LiteON 40125S is not available on LiteOn's website but I found a link to it at cdr-info.com's firmware site here (http://www.liteonit.com/webfw/LTR-40125S/R40ZS0A.zip). Funny, but this page links to LiteOn's site anyway...

So true, oh so true! :)
We still all do it though, don't we.
Just ordered up my LiteOn 40X so will see how it goes first me thinks. ;)
83bj60 Mar 28, 2002, 12:09 PM I'm sure you'll be impressed like I was. Sure, it's a bit noisier like any fast CD-ROM drive, if that bothers you just write at low speed ;)
In any case it is IMHO vastly superior to the old Plextor I had, except with DirectCD (probably because the bugs havent been worked out in the latest version which is the only one that recognizes this new burner). Come to think of it, maybe the latest firmware could cure this, but I'm cautious and will wait a bit longer.
Right now I don't have much time to do a lot of stuff with it and I need to find a fast, large and especially quiet hard drive. The Maxtor 6L060J3 I had for a day was just too loud (I'll be probably getting the 'quiet' fluid dynamic spindle motor version if I can find it)... My 4.3GB is way too small and slow for my needs, I'm constantly writing stuff off of it and instaling/uninstalling software because I can't load them all. Very inconvenient...
BTW, it's a real speed demon working with Ghost to make a HD image on CD. Took me less than 20 minutes to backup my whole 4 gigs (that works out to approx. 20X, including preparation and time to insert media - burn seems to be limited to 20X, you don't see any speed increase zones on the CD)... Well, I'm getting off topic, just let it be known I'm quite ahappy with it :)
Lazza Mar 29, 2002, 07:26 AM Sounds great 83bj60. I, like you before this, was a confirmed Plex user. I've been running a pair of LiteOn 24102b's for a while now, and I only bough the first one because my H/W supplier was out of the 24X Plex! Best thing that happened IMHO.
You say "you don't see any speed increase zones on the CD", is that the case on all burnt media or was that just with your Ghost image?
BTW can sure reccomend the newer IBM HD's if you want a fast, quiet and relaible drive. I use a 40g 60GXP and it's the biz IMHO.

I have the newer version of the GXP (60 gig model) that addresses those issues.
I haven't had it all that long - almost four months -
but I have used it a lot for working with many large files
and so far so good.
When properly defragged, it is a speed demon.
Lazza Mar 30, 2002, 11:42 AM No that's the 60 gig HDD (Can't remember the model No) with glass/ceramic discs in it.
JAMAL Mar 31, 2002, 02:49 AM Ah thats good then, alot of people have been winging about the older 60 gxp on overclockers forum lately

83bj60 Mar 31, 2002, 12:09 PM Lazza: That's only using Ghost 2001.
About the IBM 60GB HD: so I should be looking at it, eh? ;)
