I have a simple question and I hope there's a simple answer as well.
Do new CD-R's have to be formated? If so, how? Thanks

Thanks Devil-Man Mar 28, 2002, 03:03 PM Nope :) Cd-rw's need to be formatted if you're going to be using them for packet writing, where you can use the cd like a regular floppy disk. But cd-r's, no  jerse Mar 28, 2002, 03:31 PM Originally posted by Devil-Man Nope :) Cd-rw's need to be formatted if you're going to be using them for packet writing, where you can use the cd like a regular floppy disk. But cd-r's, no  Thanks so much Devil-Man :hdspin: Glad to hear it. I want to back up my genealogy files and pictures, but it would take a wagon load of 3.5 floppies so i want to use a cd-r but wasn't sure about the formatting. You're a lifesaver. Hoss Mar 28, 2002, 09:57 PM You don't HAVE to format CDRW's either they can be written as an ISO 9660 Data disc the same as CDR's. AS DV said only when using Packet writing, ala DirectCD/InCD do you need to format. This means you should burn an entire disc at the same time, unless you multi-session, but doing it this way (ISO 9660) is the best & most reliable way of burning it.
