bnbhoha Mar 29, 2002, 11:10 PM I have At&T broadband Internet. When I first signed up a couple of years ago it was $39.99 w/ a leased modem. When I purchased a modem, the price went down to $29.99/month. A few months ago, almost instantly, the bill went to $36.95. I'm looking at my bill now, it is $45.95/month and that's with my own modem. I don' think it's worth it anymore for that price. There is a free ISP provider here in WA. Granted it is only a 26k connection but there are no banner ads. I was curious how much you guys are paying for either cable or dsl?
p.s I tried those internet speed tests on a couple of sides and they're telling me that my down load speed was 1.5 megs/second (I don' think its that fast though).
john80y Mar 29, 2002, 11:40 PM I pay $39.99 for dsl ... Cable round here is $45.99 and no faster than my dsl... I have an internal modem that came from the dsl company .. I get to keep it if I have dsl with them for 12 months.
68techman2000 Mar 29, 2002, 11:43 PM My ADSL is $39.95/mth ( their modem ) with 100 dial up hours included. The conn. is rated at 764 up and 1.64mb/s down.
The speed sites I tried are are not accurate as they say my connection will do 17.53mb/s down. NOT likely!!!
Heeled Mar 30, 2002, 12:05 AM I'm paying 39.99/mo for 6 mos then 49.99. The modem was free and unlimited surf time. I think it's all supply and demand. Companies know they can get that much so why not charge them.
mynameis? Mar 30, 2002, 12:05 AM I have Charter Communications Pipeline cable access. I have the cheapest package at 19.99 a month, which is 128k down and 128k up. Not sure of the exact speeds of other packages, but I know there are packages for 19.99, 29.99, 39.99, and I think the fastest is like 59.99. This is in Tennessee, not sure if this company is nationwide or not.
Also, I pay an additional 3.95 a month to lease the modem.
MarshmalloW96 Mar 30, 2002, 12:25 AM I have Optimum Online cable.
Modem is free is you keep the service for 12 months.
$30 a month for 1.4 megs/s down, 600 kb/s up.
It's $40, but if you have Optimum TV it's $30, and most people have Optimum TV around here.
eze Mar 30, 2002, 12:31 AM Hmm... I pay $34.95 for 1.5mbps down and 128mbps up!!! I can't stand this upload speed; where do you guys live to be able to get like 600kbps up for only 30$ a month?!?! I still think my cable company is ripping me off! I think the only other broadband available here is Sprint DSL or something. bah. :(
shazco Mar 30, 2002, 12:44 AM nothing but dial up here unless i go sat; telstra want $45 a month

orson88 Mar 30, 2002, 02:22 AM Here in Toronto, Canada, it's $35 + $5/month for cable modem rental.
But since I signed up for the Rogers VIP service, I get a 10% discount which makes it $35/month. ;)
Pwhel Mar 30, 2002, 04:24 AM I'm paying 25Euro / month for Cable 128 in Ireland which includes modem rental of 5euro / mth. (NTL)
Forceten Mar 31, 2002, 12:58 AM I have had optima online cable for almost a year here. Its been $40 a month --- but I know as soon as my one year contract is up - the rates are up already. Once my contract is up - new rates here is $50 a month!!
Now I wish I locked in for a two year contract (and I have the dish network for tv --- no cable tv for me)
northernmonkey Apr 01, 2002, 09:46 AM I pay £25 per month (38 EURO) for 512k down 128k up here in the UK cable modem supplied as a part of the digital tv set top box (no option for standalone cm) so basically you need to take at least the basic tv package too which is £15 pm and comes with a free phone line
User48 Apr 01, 2002, 11:22 PM ADSL 1.5 down/350 up = $49.95/month in New York.
Soul Divide Apr 01, 2002, 11:45 PM i'm paying $25 a month
my speed is about 400kbps down and 128kbps up
i really want more upload and download speed but, i can't find anything reasonably priced that has decent up and download speed
martinthompson May 07, 2003, 01:24 PM im paying £23.44 in england for 512kb connection, i dont know what the max speeds are though, its pipex by the way.
jesterrace777 May 07, 2003, 01:51 PM I'm in the US using Cable One service which costs $50 a month for a 1MBPS Max download and 200kbps upload. The modem was purchased so there is no rental for that. I run a router and split the cost right down the middle with another user so it actually only costs me $25 a month.
Dave2986 May 09, 2003, 02:15 PM the average price in the uk is £25 - 30 a mo for 521kbps
if you want any higher you have to have cable and pay alot more
ElaineM May 10, 2003, 02:07 AM I wouldn't complain if I were you. I pay $50. a month for ADSL(I can't get cable) for 768 down and 256 up. The upload speed is usually okay, however the download speeds are often not much more than 500 so... :(
If I upgrade to the next tier which is 1.5 down and 512 up, it's $130 a month. Even a little too steep for me...
