Hi Guys, I need some help here. I'm going to buy a dvd burner for my pc. Followed lots of links & read lots of articles, now I'm totally confused!!

I would like to use it for ps2 backups, and as I have a digital camcorder I want to put video clips onto dvd.

The drive of preference within these forums appears to be the Pioneer A03.
Of course this is a dvd-r/-rw drive. Are the newer dvd+rw drives any good or is that format a lost cause. One article suggested that dvd+rw drives won't write to dvd-r. Is that so?

I have a Toshiba SD200E player and I would like whatever system I go for to play in it. Anyone with any experience with this player and DVD-r/-rw/+rw discs?

Sorry for the long post but I want to get this right before I spend my hard earned money!

Hi Donhay,

DVD+RW writers such as HP's 100i doesn't write on DVD-R making it very expensive buying media for them. Although it writes at 2.4x and is on special at PC World for £419 (was £520) doesn't really compensate for it's compatiblity.

m8, Get yourself a Pioneer Ao3 like me and you can get blank discs for £1 - £2.

Speak to Nokianeeds on this forum. I think he sells them for £295.

Hope this helps m8.

I paid £399 for mine from PC World and took out an extra 3 years cover for only £65.

Wouldn't it be a shame if it was to accidentally break down after 2 and a half years !!

It would get replaced for brand new one - by then they won't sell Ao3's anymore and I'll get a fast, top of the range model - hehehe ;-))
