How can I get my dvd's to play on my tv without a stand alone player.
I want to connect the tv directly to tthe pc but i dont have a clue what sort of hardware i need - what is the cheapest way of doing this???

you just need a gfx card with tv out .
i got a geoforce 2 with tv out for £25 and the cable was about a £5

Don't forget that you'll also need a DVD-ROM drive... :)

Thanks - would a graphics card with tv out have to replace my existing card?

You could get an MPEG1/2 decoder card, this would do the job, with probably better results than just regular TV out.

Take care before you jump into the fire!
Be sure to check what sort of TV or VCR you have and how you are going to be connecting the sound as well as the picture to them (one or the other).
MPEG cards are good - but a little more expensive than a 32MB AGP dual monitor (inc TV) out card.
It also depends on what spec your PC is as well.
ebuyer.com is a good place to get either card.
if you go for an MPEG card I'd recommend a Real Magic Hollywood Plus decoder card :)
Any way, just make sure your TV or VCR is up to connecting SCART or S-Video or the likes..
