maildodge Jan 18, 2002, 07:07 PM I have got a problem with my LiteOn Writer 24x.
It has been one of those days! :(
Last nite my P3 500Mhz suddenly restarted when copying a game it then would not boot! So this morning I took it to a computer shop who said it would probably need a new motherboard + Processor (all main bits) Because I got so much copying to do I thought I might as well buy a new PC for the same price!
I have formatted this PC and put in my Liteon and Pioneer DVDr thinking everything would be fine, but now the Liteon is not recognised as a cd Recorder! I have tired upgrading firmware and trying different IDE (slave etc) and yes DMA is enabled.
So I decided to put my Plextor drive back in (16x) and this works fine for now (had loads of problems with this) But do you reckon my LiteOn as had it or is there something simple I need to do?
Also if it helps I am running Windows XP!
All of above does not sound too bad but I could not be bothered to explain what else has gone wrong! It has been one of those days where I wish i didnt wake up!!
Any help would be appreciated.
maildodge Jan 19, 2002, 03:18 AM Come on guys I know it is a long post but I just want to know what you think, is it broken?
Sinn Jan 20, 2002, 02:16 AM I kind of had a similar problem, I had my friend upgrade my comp form Windows 98 to Windows ME, I get my comp back and my CD-ROM and CD-RW cant read any CD's, I just figured they were shot and bought new ones...
realplayer Jan 20, 2002, 03:10 AM I also have a lite-on 24x. It works OK on Win98SE but not on ME. My friend has the same drive. He has the same problem but now he runs on XP and solve the problem.
Galron Jan 20, 2002, 05:56 AM I 've got a Lite-on 24 speed also. I'm running winXP and the drive wouldn't be recognized as a CDRW drive also. Nero didn't see the drive at all, Clonecd saw it as a reader. When booting Win ME (yes i have dual boot) the drive was recognized by ME and Nero (installed on a different HDD).
After a few shutdown and reboot actions Win XP hurled in the Hardware identifier and there it was, my 24 speed driver! Never had any problem since.....
So win ME can see the drive, as does XP. But what happened ..... I don't know..... spooky drive unit ???...
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 07:16 AM Ok thanks for your response.
It was actually already running on XP perfectly until my computer f**cked up!
I decided to take the LiteOn back to PC World they tested it and said it was broke so they gave me a new one! But I have the same problem with the new one!!
I think XP recognises it as a CD Writer but no copying programs do!! I was not sure if I had to install the nero which was supplied for it to be recognised?
I will have a little play! Maybe it was a bad batch PC World had!
Cheers.
Lazza Jan 20, 2002, 07:41 AM This may work m8.
I too have had similar problems with systems that I have built over the last year or so with some of the newer CDRW drives on the market. I have had this problem with Plextor/LiteOn and TDK 16/24X drives with 98 and Me. (I guess that XP would be no different in this respect)
Go into device manager and click on the settings tab for your LiteOn and look at the "drive letter" drop down boxes, my bet is that they are both empty. Select your drive letter whether its "D", "E" or whatever and re-boot.
My guess from what you have said is that your problem is that Windows recognises the LiteOn but your burning software does not. Hopefully you will now find the problem is sorted.
I have found that EZCD/NERO/NTI would not recognise the CDRW drive unless the drive letter is selected but Clone CD worked no probs whatsoever.
Hope this sorts it. :)
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 07:44 AM OK cheers for info the boxes are empty and I will try that now, cheers.
Lazza Jan 20, 2002, 08:03 AM Forgot to say m8, if that doesnt work for you then it's probably your ASPI layer needs looking at.
Download ASPI check from Roxio.com if your problem persists.
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 08:23 AM OK mate I cannot find where the drive letter settings is! I have ooked under device manager then properties but nothing like that comes up!
I have done it before but cannot think where from!
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 08:46 AM OK I installed Nero which was supplied with the writer, this is now working but only in Nero! I have got the latest ASPI and all is working fine!
The only thing I can think off is that I need to change the drive letters like you said but cannot find where I have to do this!
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 08:50 AM Also if you say just use Nero, I may have to but do not like this program and prefer CDRWin!
maildodge Jan 20, 2002, 09:13 AM OK no worries I fixed it by downloading the latest CDRWin 4a! I suppose the older version did not support 24x! Cheers for all your help!
