this is rearly strange,now i know that the liteon 24x and direct cd5.1 work together but for some reason it has decided not to. will elaborate. my pc has worked ok with cd5.1 and the 24xliteon before,now i bought an external 9600hp scsi my pc would only reboot into safe mode cut long story took off direct cd 4 which installed with this earlier writer and also in system about 3 other roms which i had no more,booted up and system worked ok.installed direct5.1 liteon and scsi worked ok.then later on tried the liteon again and upon inserting disc the green light kept flashing all the timei did not suspect direct cd5.1 conflicting with the writer.thought the writer had it not to worry under warranty,anyway the shop swoped out the writer still the same took off the hp writing software veritus,and direct cd 5.1 charged me 25pounds and it worked ok,still did not think cd5.1 was the problem.reinstalled yesturday and the writer flashed again and drive inaccessable.took off worked ok,thought i will today go to program files and delete the direct cd4.reinstalled direct cd5.1 liteon green light flashes and drive inaccessable. have not upgraded the firmware as the drive works fine for me would this help.never had adrive before been totally unworking by software.i know from my xp pc from bitter experiance how direct cd is un forgiving if you get a conflict it can cause many problems.this pc is a pentium3 733 on windows 98.good story will resolve it now iknow expensively the problem,any help though would appreciate.colin

First thing I would look at would be AIN or AutoPlay in XP. Look in the WinXP FAQ for instructions on several ways to disable it.
If that doesn't do it I'd make sure you have the latest update available, you can find that here

Even though it says it's for WinON it works fine, as it's a full version anyway.

thankyou hoss, for your reply the problem pc is my other 1 useing windows98. my pc with xp and the teac coexist ok with directcd5.1.even tried directcd5 from my winoncd3.8 this does not support the latest writers the 24x liteon started flashing again and at present on plan b aheads incd.will crack it 1 day more inprtant thinks inlife.colin

oz,cant understand your reply,i have a version of easycd platinum retail on my pc still the original and put on 5.1 direct cd flashes the green light with the liteon,the winoncd 3.8 came with a retail plextor installing just direct5 from the winoncd 3.8 still flashes.i wonder if anybody knows how to clear my registry and takeing differant versions of direct cd on and off my pc in the past something must be left over as no version of direct cd works just causes the liteon to flash and make the drive inaccessable.colin
