Can you still access the drive thru Explorer? Does it read or play the CD that way? What Burnware do you have installed? And what were you trying to play when this happened? http://www.cdrom-guide.com/ubb/4MoDeRaToRs/SiGnAtUrE_ImAgEs/hoss1.gif Jon Jay Jan 19, 2002, 02:43 PM First what OS are you using - windows 98 Can you still access the drive thru Explorer- do you mean i can click on the d-drive icon. yes Does it read or play the CD that way - no What Burnware do you have installed - none And what were you trying to play when this happened - championship manager, i`ve tried different disc and it does play any. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks jon Jon Jay Jan 19, 2002, 03:48 PM I`ve tried different disc`s but it still doesn`t pick them up. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks jon [/B][/QUOTE] Jon Jay Jan 20, 2002, 07:42 AM do you think the laser eye of the cd rom needs cleaning? Jon Jay Jan 22, 2002, 06:46 AM Thousands of people come to this site and not one of you have any idea what the fault is? thanks Two Dog Band Jan 22, 2002, 09:55 PM 1. On bootup is the BIOS seeing the drive? 2. If "YES" to #1 when you put a CD (try different ones ie. game, audio) does the light flash as it reads the TOC? 3. What is the brand and model of drive and how old is it? 4. If it is on the secondary IDE channel put it as slave on the first with the hard drive to see if something happened to the secondary IDE channel. 5. To really test it install it in a different computer and install a different one into this one. Hoss Jan 23, 2002, 12:18 AM Sorry Jon Jay I missed this one and had forgot aboout it. I would say cleaning the laser is not a bad idea, just don't use alcohol! But I have a feeling the laser just may have died :( What Two Dogs suggested wuld be the best way to test that theory. If you have a kindly friend throw it in his PC and see if it works. btw it's not a big deal, but it is a suggestion....many of us "Old Hands" here tend to skip by the "Please Help" type topics for several reasons I won't bother listing. So in the future it may help to include more info/better description in the Topic Header. Jon Jay Jan 24, 2002, 12:16 PM Hi, First let me say I`m sorry for sounding so pompous in my replys, yes I have cleared the eye and for about 2 days it was working like new but today (24th jan) it has stopped working again?. Anyway thanks for all your help . Jon |
