Could someone please tell me what is meant by ripping a cd?

And also what is the difference between NRI and NRG Nero files

Ripping a cd basically means extracting everything from a cd onto your hard drive. It just pulls all the data from the cd and put in on your hard drive so you can do whatever you're going to with the data.

NRI, I never used it with nero
NRG is the image, you make an image first, then burn, that image you made.

Ripping a CD usually means converting an audio CD to MP3 format or something similar. That is what a CD ripper does.

No, ripping does NOT mean converting audio CD to MP3's format. Such a process is called encoding. Ripping is extracting the whole audio CD or just the tracks you choose from an audio CD and save to the HD as either WAV or MP3 files.

NRG is the Nero image. The other NR*'s you may see when working with Nero represent the compilation you create & save on HD. For example, NRA is the Audio compilation and NRE is the Enhanced CD compilation.
