moddogs Apr 13, 2002, 07:10 PM Just installed it in a V1 and it works just like it says. No need to power off the unit when swapping PS2 originals. You still need to power off for import originals though.
Good chip, smaller design and no B6 to solder. It should also work on V2's since Origa works on these versions.
ivanov Apr 13, 2002, 08:04 PM have u tried doing a novachip + neo 4 combo? might better the origa + neo4 combo
moddogs Apr 13, 2002, 09:07 PM Not yet. I wouldn't think it would be much different though since Novachip uses the same code, but it was cleaned up, as the Origa.
Int3g_Type_R Apr 13, 2002, 10:12 PM moddogs, by cleaned up, do u mean the code is more reliable?
i am thinking of changing my origachip since the nova looks a lil easier to install (that n it looks cooler! =P)
ps2rulez Apr 14, 2002, 12:18 AM where did u buy the nova chip???
moddogs Apr 14, 2002, 02:21 AM ps2rulez, i stock them (check out my sig).
ps2rulez Apr 14, 2002, 09:17 AM but u r temp outta stock then when is it available?
handyguy Apr 14, 2002, 12:20 PM Hmmm...a positive reference from someone who is also selling the chip? But you don't have any in stock? Is that correct?
moddogs Apr 14, 2002, 01:50 PM I haven't gotten around to updating the inventory on the page. I've been too busy doing my Messiah pre-mods. I know they want them badly. :)
garagekru Apr 14, 2002, 01:54 PM wanna test my system for a novachip + neo4 combo? v3 pal
skeevs Apr 15, 2002, 12:09 AM Hey moddogs,
I have a friend who has a chip in, but doesn't really which it is. So I was wondering if he had the Nova inside since we're from Asia. He doesn't have to power down the console and reset like the Origa tho. All he needs to do is to hit reset, but for cdr's his console needs to be put on standby, and a quick double reset will put the modchip in cdr mode. And if he wants to go back to playing dvdr's, the console needs to start up with a cold boot or else it'll still be in cdr more.
His is a 30006R, asian model.
Is this the case with the Novachip as well ?
monkey1300 Apr 15, 2002, 12:20 AM is novachip same as origa??
skeevs Apr 15, 2002, 12:22 AM Less wires and cleaned up code from the Origa
GI16Gunner Apr 15, 2002, 12:30 AM Moddogs is the man, He installed my M-Clone and it works great, Very professional. And is Stateside which is good.
Idiotrat Apr 15, 2002, 12:44 AM is it better for a Jap v1 scph-10k than the origa 1.25?
thx
moddogs Apr 15, 2002, 03:58 PM skeevs,
Origa/Novachip has better functionality on Jap models as you don't have to power down to boot imports like on US consoles with Origa/Novachip.
garageku,
I am not in the experimenting mood right now. Especially since I am really upset at Neo 4's and their flakiness. I just installed 2 Neo 4's in 2 GT3's and those customers have to do blue bottom swaps!!
Idiotrat,
I can't say if it's better or not. I have 2 Jap models to install this week. I am going to use Nova's on both.
gAm3 Fr3aQu3 Apr 15, 2002, 09:23 PM Moddogs, I have a question:
What Mod Chip (V5 Compatible) will enable me to play EA and DVD-r games?
skeevs Apr 15, 2002, 09:25 PM moddogs,
i asked this earlier, could you let me know whether the novachip requires the console to be on standby, and then a double reset to put it into ps2-cdr mode ?
I'm not asking about dvdr's since I know that doesn't require it to be on standby.
moddogs Apr 16, 2002, 12:15 AM skeevs,
For CDRs on a Jap PS2 with a Novachip, you will need to do a DVD Region X swap.
Kabutamos Apr 16, 2002, 12:57 AM Moddogs check your mail from the site u should have a mail to send to PaulNickerson63@msn.com
skeevs Apr 16, 2002, 02:11 AM moddogs,
Yes I know about the swapping. We use AR2 over here. Again as I asked, is there a standby->double reset required to boot cdr's using the nova ?
psx-tech Apr 16, 2002, 05:24 AM to skeevs
no .
Optic_surfa Apr 16, 2002, 04:33 PM but novachips is pretty expensive
i would go with the neo2.2
moddogs Apr 18, 2002, 12:29 PM skeevs,
Which CDR are you referring to? PS1 or PS2?
Optic_surfa,
It's a bit more expensive than a Neo 2.2, but you don't have to hold down reset while trying to press X on the controller. No sore thumbs from the console. Now, button mashing in games is another story. :)
rommy Apr 18, 2002, 04:25 PM can somebody provide me the link to nova chip diagrams for scph 10000 and 15000.?
moddogs Apr 18, 2002, 05:45 PM rommy,
They are the same diags as Origa. Just no B6 and B9.

ps2rulez Apr 18, 2002, 08:15 PM what abt for a jap ps2 with model no 30000?????
any diagrams?
skeevs Apr 18, 2002, 09:27 PM moddogs,
just referring to ps2 cdr's.
Just want to know if it's the same as the chip in my buddy's console.
moddogs Apr 19, 2002, 12:13 PM gAm3 Fr3aQu3,
Nothing for V5 will do EA games without patching first. For DVDR, you have No-solder mod, Neo 2.5 DVD XKey auto, and Neo 4R(coming soon).
skeevs,
For PS2 based CDR, you will have to do a AR2 swap, so the answer to your question would be that Novachip does not direct boot PS2 CDR, and to put the unit back into PS2 blue bottom mode, just hit reset. No power down needed. HTH.
