Anyone seen this error before????

I just got some games in and got an error on two Sims games , Vacation and House Party, that I have never seen before. When you run setup and the install shield starts it comes back and says, "Error getting install path from registry, aborting install". Has anyone ever seen this and what is the cause. I am guessing that it is a bad image that didn't 1:1 the data on the read. The autorun also says "failed to recognize original CD" when you put the disk in the cdrom drive. Thanks for any input you may have....

Umm... this may be a stipud question, but do you have the original sims game. Vacation and houseparty are just addons and they won't work without the original game. Sorry if this doesn't help but i ain't got any other ideas.

Yeah you need The Sims to make them work right.

OK, I am am idiot. No, I don't have the Sims. I picked these up for a friend and just wanted to make sure they worked before charging him. Thanks!
