Hey guys;
I am getting TWO (2) SONY PSX'S SCPH 7501 and planning on modding both of them w/ MultiMode 3 chip. What is the easiest way to get rid of the metal plate that blocks the top of the mobo on the SCPH 7501 PSX? Can you just snip off the board w/ pliers or do you hold the soldering iron to the solder points and just tug on the plate? LMK guys! Thx :)

i have done many 7502 ( uk ) models and all i do is desolder just 1 leg on the front right as you look from the front , and prop it up while I solder the wires , then unprop it and resolder the leg

simple !!!

some ppl actually bend it up and then down again too

yah, that is what I may try, bend it over, otherwise I'll just desolder the whole thing and not put it back on :) BTW, to desolder do you just hold the iron to the solder joint and gently tug or do you have to use desoldering braid? LMK and thx a lot m8 :)

You shouldn't need braid. Just hold the iron to the solder until it melts then lift gently. You shouldn't have to pull with any force, if you do you didn't let the solder melt all the way.

if you solder nib has a tiny indentation (like the one i used did) you may have to put a little bit of iron solder onto the nib before you try to unsolder the plate as the nib will not make full contact and the solder will not melt.

All I do is cut the legs of the heatshield with a small pair of cutters and
remove the heatshield.

Its, not needed, have done over at least 150 of them and not had one back yet.

BTW, be carefull on the leg on the bottom left as its right next to a chip.

It may not be obvious but RF shielding is there for a reason. You don't even need to remove it completely therefore why go through the extra work of removing it?

UM, of you don't remove it how do you expect to install the chip? EH?

you dont need to remove it completely , just desolder 1 leg only , prop it up , solder the wires , take the prop out , resolder it and job done !!

its best to leave it on as it is there for a reason , and like the man says , why remove it when there is no need ???

I have always used the above method , and I have never removed the rf shield either !!!
