View Full Version : Does Toshiba SD210E play dvd-rw?

I've had a look on the VCD Help, and some seem to say it does, and some it doesn't. I know dvd-rw isn't the most highly compatible format, and I was thinking i'd have to go for dvd+rw/r, but if this works it gives me another option.

Has anyone tried playing dvd-rw disks on a Toshiba SD210E and if so, does it work and playback OK? I know svcd's can have an audio-sync prob, so want to be sure before I decide on which format to go for.

Thanks..... ;)

SVCD's do work, but you need to change the audio sync by around 250ms ahead.

I know dvdr's work, but what about dvd-rw's?

In TMPGenc.

If you select SVCD format, then click on Settings>Advanced, then double click on Source range. This brings up an editing box, and at the bottom middle Audio gap correct. On mine the audio needs to be advanced by 240ms, but you may have to play around with them to get the correct one for you (I personally found it's the same time lag with them all, so just saved the TMPGenc setting and always use that).

The quickest way to find it is to do about 3 or 4 short captures (ie 3 mins each). Go for something with close ups on faces like the news, etc to make it easier to see. Then convert each one to SVCD format using a slightly different setting for each (ie 200ms, 225ms & 250m/s) until you narrow it down to the correct settings. It'll take a while, but once you've got it it should be the same each time, and after that it's no different to converting to SVCD format anyway (you can throw it straight into something like Nero without it having to be converted again).

I got a tutorial off the VCDHelp faq, and experinmented from there..... ;)

I've got a 210e mate. I know it plays CDRW but I have not tried DVDRW. If you wanted to send me a DVDRW I can try it. No its not a trick, I will send it you back by post.
What I would like in return (no such thing as a free meal) Ive already got some SVCD's and they play out of sync. can I reconvert those SVCD with the time delay so they play in SYNC. If so how. Please note I have never ripped a DVD but have done MP3 so not a complete novice. If I could get that sorted the player would be great, at present I am dissapointed that the Sync is out.

As you alreadt know the picture quality is outstanding even with SVCD.

Cheers and I will return the DVDrw if you want me to check it for you.

Thanks for the offer Uncle, but I've got an SD210E, but no dvd-rw drive! I want to get a dvd burner fairly soon, and am trying to find out if dvd-rw disks play in it, as apparently dvd+rw ones do.....!

Looking at your second post, have you sorted out the lip sync problem? If not, let me know how you usually create your svcd's (from once you've got your mpeg file). Have you tried the method I mentioned above?
