I'm looking at the various competing formats for the new dvd recorders. It seems that the dvd-r format will probably be a winner and have noticed a couple of things about this.
1. I noticed that the dvd-r format comes w/ either dvd ram, or dvd-rw, but not both. Why is this?
2. I havn't seen a dvd-r/ dvd ram that can write cdr/cdrw. Why is this when there are dvd-r/dvd-rw drives that come with cdr/cdrw writing capabilities?
3. Dvd ram allows you to drag and drop files onto the disk w/o using any type of software; it works like a hard drive and can be rewritten up to 100,000- some say a million times, and it can be erased in less that 30 seconds. It is enclosed in a case and often comes double sided. Dvd-rw cannot do this, but it can be re-written probably up to 1000 times, and I hear that the media isn't really readily available. What's this dvd-rw 2.0 general media I hear about? I don't see any advantages of dvd-rw besides being able to play them in various players (which I don't see the purpose because dvd-rs are only $2.50 and you can always use the dvd ram disc as a guinea pig for some equipment like the Panasonic E20 standalone dvd recorder)
4. As far as the other formats go, I don't see any benifits in the dvd +r/ dvd +rw drives. The media is expensive and supposidly it writes a little faster. I heard they don't even have the dvd +r discs yet. Did I miss something here? Anyone see advantages here?
Any thoughts or insight would be aprreciated. I want, if it's available, a dvd-r,dvd ram drive that can also copy regualar cds. Anyone know if they are available or if they ever will be available? Thank you
