satcat Apr 19, 2002, 06:28 AM HI, i have this machine and can copy to DVD-R no problems !! however, the disks will only play in this machine or P.C. do i have to copy ne files or some thing else (similar to CDI files for VCD) or n e other info?? thanx in advance:(
Kaizerboy Apr 19, 2002, 11:26 AM Have got one of these machines & have no problems playing them on my 3 dvd players.
I think it's all down to what dvd player you are trying to play them on
bub1 Apr 19, 2002, 04:28 PM are you finalising the discs?
bub
thetonightshow Apr 19, 2002, 06:49 PM Hi, Yeah you need to finalise the discs to get them to work on other machines. Hit the "top window" button then look for "finalise disc".
Also try using grade 2 media or branded media.
satcat Apr 20, 2002, 05:52 AM chees lads, Yes i am finalising them, but do DVD players need to see some sort of start up file on the disk?i have a Megadata and a XWAVE standalone players, both try to read the disk, then say NO DISC !! n e help please... cheers for the input..
NOKIANEEDS Apr 20, 2002, 06:39 AM they are looking for a audio_ts folder which the pansonic doesnt write, it only writes a video_ts folder.
Only way around this is if you have acces to a a03 or similar and use gear pro to import the video ts folder and then it will create a audio_ts folder automatically for you and re write the disk
satcat Apr 20, 2002, 07:35 AM cheers Nokia needs, thought it was something like that.. having said that, how come Kaizerboy can play them?? he doesn,t mention your explanation?? just curious...thanx for the help 2 every1
Kaizerboy Apr 20, 2002, 07:46 AM I have a Sony DVP-F21 , Manhattan 2000 & 3000
Some players look for the AUDIO_TS folder & others don't, my 3 players don't need the audio_ts folder.
Saying that though my friend has an X-Wave player & he can play DVD-R's i've recorded on the panasonic E20.
satcat Apr 20, 2002, 08:13 AM cheers Kaizer, il,, get there in the end!!LOL thanx 2 every 1
satcat Apr 20, 2002, 10:00 AM hi, me again.LOL.. does the AUDIO_TS Folder have to come from the DVD that i am copying??? or is there a "standard" file? that i can get written on the front end by some one else? cheers
thetonightshow Apr 20, 2002, 03:30 PM This is very strange, I haven't come across any players that won't play the dvdr's from my panasonic.
Could it be cheap media that's the problem.
I thought most players would look for a menu file first.....
satcat Apr 20, 2002, 03:44 PM do you need a menu file on it??thats what i,m asking?i have tried several brands of media, could be part of the problem!! i have some more different brands agin ,so i,ll keep u informed ,thanx 2 every 1.. p.s. what media r u using?
cliff_62 Apr 21, 2002, 07:20 AM whats the quality like when you copy dvd to dvd-r on to the panny
satcat Apr 21, 2002, 09:02 AM excellent !! u can vary the "TIME" AS XP ,EP ,SP ,LP BUT ALL R PRETTY GOOD....
Kaizerboy Apr 21, 2002, 09:52 AM Have only ever used the FWS unbranded generation 2 media as it's what I sell
satcat Apr 21, 2002, 10:13 AM cheers Kaizer, u mail me with a price list ,etc? cheers..
thetonightshow Apr 21, 2002, 11:06 AM Hi satcat,
It should make a standard file for a menu automatically after you have finalised the disc.
I just use cheapo's from a PC show - works on all players I have tried.
Take a look at ...
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/SVP_Communications_Recordable_DVD_Discs_16.html
they have discs that have specifically been tested on the dmre20.
For the other guys who were wondering about dvd to dvdr on the panasonic - it's superb as long as your original player can remove the macrovision. If the Panasonic (or Pioneer/Philips) detect a whiff of macro from any source it won't let you record.
Must be a firmware update for that soon though ;-)
Even VHS to dvdr looks amazing, the signal is cleaned by the panasonic and results are amazing.
You can even edit sections out - say commercials then next time you watch it the ads are gone!!
One hell of a piece of kit, you can get it from...
http://www.prcdirect.co.uk
for 679.95
There is a new Panasonic on the horion - the DMRE30 but the only difference is that the E30 DOES NOT feature DVin. It's also going to be a touch slimmer...
thetonightshow Apr 21, 2002, 11:09 AM Just been looking,
You can get it for 549!!! from the following shop...
http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-panasonic-dmr-e20-multi-region-dvd-recorder.html
satcat Apr 21, 2002, 02:43 PM HI LADS, GOT IT SUSSED!!!!YAHOOOOO it WAS a media problem!!! have just borrowed a disk from a m8, it looks the same as the others iv,e been trying ,but it obviousely isn,t!!! copied 2 fils onto 1 disk..works perfect on both my machines..LOL right..n e way to tell what brand of disk it is? it,s a mirror ,WITH A SET OF CONTINUES NUMBERS IN THE CENTRE. the disk that doesn,t work is almost identical ,except the numers have a gap in them!! both a purple reflection,, thanx for all the input lads..
cliff_62 Apr 21, 2002, 03:00 PM fanx for the replys you can get it from here http://homepages.force9.net/grahamash/magic/ for £699.00 you get 6 dvd ram discs and 3 dvd r discs inc vat but not delivery cheap at that price want to get one just have to save a bit more
cliff
satcat Apr 21, 2002, 03:24 PM go 4 it Cliff, it,s a cracking bit of kit..when u get it sussed.lol HAPPY DAYS.....

do you guys have to be so aggressive all the time :)
Kaizerboy Apr 24, 2002, 06:57 PM Even if your player has macro removed via remote hack the E20 can still pick up a trace of macro & refuse to record.
Buy a mac master lead from www.sonel.com to be extra sure
bub1 Apr 25, 2002, 07:28 AM Not on this instance Kaizerboy. I have a Sonel Macmaster lead and removed it and put a normal scart lead when I bought my Dansai 852. I tried a Macro DVD to back up to my E20 and the record button did work.
I also have a Pioneer 535 DVD player and a old Bugblaster Macro remover and because tha Buglblaster doesnt completely remove Macro the E20 wont allow you to record. Also using a PS2 with Neo4 fited wont work either. I do agree some DVD players with the option of disabling Macro wont be enough but I was well chuffed when my Dansai 852 worked, all I can say is what a player it does bloody everything.
bub
Kaizerboy Apr 25, 2002, 02:12 PM Sorry should have said MAY refuse to record
rad dude Apr 29, 2002, 12:26 AM Hi, I have a DMR-E20. I'm looking for a macrovision free DVD player that will let me copy DVD's , do you have any good recommendations or is this place ( http://www.geocities.com/code_free_dvd_players/) a good place to look?
satcat Apr 29, 2002, 05:05 AM RAD, code free player doesn,t mean MACRO FREE!!! u want some thing like a DANSAI from Tesco, a cracking machine , but very difficult 2 find, becaue it,s so GOOD..can also recommend MEGADATA or XWAVE..good luck
bub1 Apr 29, 2002, 07:43 AM Rad Dude if you look 2 posts up before your post I have already answered your question
(Dansai 852 from Tescos)
bub
rad dude Apr 29, 2002, 10:53 AM Thanks for the replies. I understand the macro free, the machines at the link are macro disabled, and I hoped to hear from someone who actually was using one of those that they were selling.
However, you have both recommended the Dansai, so I will search for one of those. I wanted something that WILL work with the E20, and you guys have answered my question.
Thanks!!
cliff_62 Apr 29, 2002, 01:46 PM I think you will find that the dansai 852 has now changed to the 1010 model, thats the one they are selling at our tesco's also can anyone tell me what software to use to edit my dv footage that I've copied onto the ram disc's as it creates vro files. I want to edit and put transitions in before writing back to dvd-r on my computer
thanx
cliff:tup:
thetonightshow Apr 29, 2002, 03:26 PM check out the Yelo 800 at amazon.co.uk
£150, does everything you want...
bub1 Apr 29, 2002, 04:58 PM Cliff62, Tescos down my way had just 1010s 2 weeks ago and then a week later they get 300 852s in. I thought the 852 was discontinued but when I asked them about it they said they will be selling both models so I bought one (852). They confirmed to me the 852 is a current model. So it must be the Tescos up your way, maybe they just cant get hold of any

katalyst2k Apr 30, 2002, 05:16 PM Hi all
Need some help here i bought a mac master lead on saturday just gone.
When i tried to copy a film on my phillips 622 my e20 was still detectecting macrovision, so i decided to use my neo4 chipped ps2 still my e20 detected macrovision:(
So on monday i decided to exchange my mac master hoping it was faulty.
when i got home i tried again with my philips622 and still the dvd would not copy, so i tried my ps2 and to my delight it copied no probs. i have since copied 5 films no problem including latest blockbuster no1.
But tonight i have tried copying a film and it now detects the macrovision yet other films including the ones that would not copy with the first mac master lead still copy no problem.
How can this be? surley if the mac master can remove macrovision on a few films it should work on all. Any help here would be appreciated.
THX
KAT
Kaizerboy May 01, 2002, 03:56 AM I have noticed that you still get a couple of films that refuse to copy even with macro off on the player & a mac master lead.
bub1 May 01, 2002, 05:57 AM Can you name the films that refuse to copy, so if I get a chance ill give them a try
bub
Kaizerboy May 01, 2002, 07:38 AM can't remember off the top of my head as it was when I first had my recorder
katalyst2k May 01, 2002, 11:58 AM heh guys
Just tried the film that would not copy using my philips 622 and it copys how strange is that? yet other films wont work unless i use the ps2. and the films that work with ps2 wont work on the philips.
The film by the way was AI Artificial Inteligence

stiletto May 03, 2002, 06:10 AM CAN ANYONE HELP ME
DVD TO DVD, GREAT
VHF TO DVD, NO-WAY AT ALL
I`AVE TRIED 3 MACRO STABILISERS, WHICH I KNOW WORK BUT NONE WILL LET ME IN TO MY E-20. WHICH ONE WORKS FOR YOU
OR IS THERE A VHS RECORDER WHICH WILL DO IT ALL FOR ME
Kaizerboy May 03, 2002, 09:11 AM I had the same problem to start with then by complete accident I connected from the video to one of those RGB scart switcher boxes then the macro lead from the switcher box to the E20 & that seemed to fix it.
thetonightshow May 05, 2002, 09:09 AM The only way to get around the time limits on the E20 is to set the timer and have a variable bit mode.
So you set the timer for 2hrs 30mins and it will fill the disc up at the best bitrate for that time scale.
Bit of an arse ache really, i'm sure that new firmware will sort this but it's up to panasonic to release it.
That's the only way around it - either that or choose 4 hour mode :-(
thetonightshow May 05, 2002, 09:11 AM Just an addition... to make things clearer.
Put your vhs tape in your video with the original material on it.
Set the timer on the E20 for say midday, with a finish time of 14:30pm
When midday comes hit play on your vhs and the recorder will record it until 2:30pm.
If you have selected xp or sp modes with variable bit rates it will lower the bit rate just enough to fit 2hrs 30 mins on the disc.
When 2:30pm comes your E20 will shut down with a full disc of information.
As I say - bit of an arse ache.....
thetonightshow May 05, 2002, 09:14 AM Just an update on the macrovision problem. Using my Yelo800 from amazon.co.uk i can record ANY disc I put in - macro encoded or not.
I have not come across any disc it wouldn't copy.
Only problem to sort is VHS.... (maybe a vhs to beta copy then beta to E20 would sort it)....
theboxer May 06, 2002, 06:14 PM Guys, read in ----->>> this from a newbie as well...
Put simply I have a Ge-Force 2 MX400 (32MB) with SVHS TV Output
when I hook upto my Panasonic DMR E20, I can record ***ANYTHING***
and I mean anything...
How ??? real easy... using TV Tool and a modified Nivida XP driver
that's how..
Results are amazing.. removes Macrovision, and discs that i couldn't
copy on my Pioneer DV444s, now work 100%... there's is nothing I
can't copy....
How about this... I have a few DivX movies, guess what you can record
this in Top Quality, no encoding needed.. how cool is that....
VCD/SVCD/DivX/DVD 's both Region 1 & 2 films on same DVDR through
TvTool..
Sweet.. hope this helps....
STEFOR May 06, 2002, 10:43 PM Hi Guys
Just about to buy an E20 but have a question.
If you wanted to record 2 movies onto 1 DVD-R in 4 hour mode and space permits it (2 X 1:30) can you pause the DVD-R recording while you sort out the next movie?
Cheers:confused:
Kaizerboy May 07, 2002, 05:27 AM Yes you can pause the recording to sort out the next film but wouldn't it be better to stop the recording & stort a new one ??
That way you'll be able to select each movie from the menu.
Topmovies2002 May 07, 2002, 07:29 AM Can you just put in any dvd movie and it will record it?
STEFOR May 07, 2002, 07:58 AM Cheers Kaizerboy
Because I haven't bought the unit yet I didn't know that it also put a menu on the disc (bargain!!!). Thats great, just what I wanted to hear.
So lets see if I've got this right.
1. Connect my Scan DVD player via SVHS out to SVHS in on the E20
2. Hit play on Scan and Record on E20. When film ends, hit stop on both units.
3. Put new movie in Scan, repeat above. At the end of that film, finalise the DVD-R and thats it, I end up with a DVD-R with 2 feature films on it and a menu so you can pick between movies that can be played on most players.
If the above is right, I've got to get me one of these!
Thanks again Guys:tup:
Ru$$Rip May 07, 2002, 09:21 AM Has anyone used the New Gen3 DVDR's with the E20 yet??
Cheers
Kaizerboy May 07, 2002, 12:06 PM Stefor : Yes mate that is correct however, Don't for get to title the disc & each movie before you finlaize coz you can't change it after you've finalized.
When you buy it if you need anymore help give me an e-mail.
kaizerboyd@hotmail.com
bub1 May 07, 2002, 05:11 PM Just to let you all know there will NEVER be a Firmware update for the E20. Panasonic have confirmed this to me a while back. So what you see is waht you get
bub
thetonightshow May 08, 2002, 04:33 PM Perhaps Panasonic won't but I spoke to techtronics who are putting together a regional firmware update.
It will come on a cdr and will update some firmware issues.
Fingers crossed...
rad dude May 09, 2002, 10:35 PM Will the DMR-E20 play SVCD's correctly? I'm assuming the answer is no, as mine doesn't seem to want to provide sound, but at 2X speed it provides a great picture and clear sound...as clear as it gets at 2X speed anyway : )
Kaizerboy May 10, 2002, 04:13 AM i've noticed that it's not very good for playing back SVCD as like you say you have to burn at 2x for them to play any good.
thetonightshow May 10, 2002, 11:17 AM Yeah, I must admit that I play svcd through my Yelo800 as my E20 won't play them at all - just jumps around...
Oh well....
thetonightshow May 11, 2002, 09:42 AM Well it can be done this way - or via a computer with the right software.
The choice is yours.....
ssb May 19, 2002, 10:33 AM Can any one help? before i buy the Panasonic DMR-E20 i whant to know will t record my vhs films to dvd, or will macrovison or some thing else stop it?
Thanks
BHOYSFAN May 19, 2002, 10:43 AM not all films have macrovision, but most new ones do.what i did was buy an x-wave dvd player which removes the m-v.and allows u to copy from dvd player to e-20.i,m pretty sure you,ll be able to get hold of a video which does the same job.hope this helps.;)
Tattooman Nov 27, 2002, 05:12 AM Hi
i made a perfect back up of a region 1 dvd of goldmember, but when trying to back up region 2 ozzy osbourne dvd i got the following message
'' cannot record to the disc, tv system of the disc is different to the setting in set up''
any ideas?
thanks
shaunyboy@work Nov 28, 2002, 08:39 AM Have you already recorded something from another region onto the same disc ? You can't mix NTSC and PAL recordings on the same dvd-r.
Also to answer a much earlier question: to edit files from dvd-ram on a pc you'll obviously need a dvd drive which is able to read dvd-ram discs - I've got a Toshiba (think it's an SD-1512 - or something like that). Extract the .vor file to you hard drive, change the file extension from .vor to .vob and hey presto !!
