No Software i used would read the disc when i went to make a back up of my disc not clone cd, discjuggler or nero burn

What do you mean it would not read it?? If you mean that you got read errors... you are supossed to get read errors, just let it keep reading as they only last for the first 2% or so.

Use a plex or similar to read and write, i don't think HP and Sony and others can handle SD2.51.

Actually the newer model Sonys handle SD better than a Plex, including SD v2.51.xx.

yeah? i'm sorry, i didn't know for sure. But anyway, I wouldn't go for Sony, I like my plex. But hey, I don't make decisions for anyone else ;) . My next one wll either be good old plex (can read prot'd audio) or Lite-On (mostly because of its SD2 capabilities)

I would not buy a burner based solely on it's ability to backup SD2... They have been beta testing SDv2.6 since the begining of Jan and who knows whether lite-on, etc. burners can produce working copies of SD v2.6.xx/

perhaps you know the forum on the CDFreaks site, there is a topic going on about SD 2.6.
They've claimed they copied a SD2.60.052 game, with CloneCD and a Lite-On. (i don't think it is a good idea to post the link here, but I'm sure that you'll find that thread, otherwise tell me whether to post that link or to mail it to you).

Ok so lite-on can do SD v2.60.xx, but what about the next version and what about TAGES, etc.

I heard TAGES is french, and that it wouldn't be used frequently (now only for motoracer 3). But I don't know what exactly TAGES does. If anybody would know an interesting link about the Tages protection...

You can live in fear of what is to come or you can just make a choice about what is good at the time. The liteons are a good priced unit that is quick and I have heard very little complaints about em. At the moment as far as price/performance goes I think they are the best unit available and IMHO would be a good choice. If I where to upgrade now I reckon I would go the Liteon 40X. Who is to say what the future will bring, just get something that does what you need it to do now :)

All I said is I would not buy a burner based soley on it's ability to do SD2.. If you are buying a lite-on burner because it is a good burner, supports 99min CDR's, has come highly recommended and happens to be able to do 1:1 SD2 copies, then that is a different story, isn't it??
