ye, needed a new writer as i only had an old philips which was on x4, so i decided to save and get X40plextor, im only running it on an AMD 380mhz pc with windows 98, so dunno if thats the problem, but its takeing like 20 minutes to read a psx cdr? and when its finished its defo not writing back the cd at x 40 i,d say about 24 max, DMA is turned on,.... im usiing nero and clone both with simalar results.....is it the hard drive, or do i just need a cpu upgrade, it does say on the plex box that 300mhz pc is required ........ is it just a case of a cpu upgrade or is it sommit else??????

The plex can only write at a max AVERAGE speed of 30x, if you add the time for power calibration, lead in & lead out, the time you are getting may be about right (3 minutes + ?) . A better test of the reading speed would be to use cd speed in nero with a data cd , the average should be about 30x , reaching 40+ at the outside of the disc

I think that you are maybe expecting a bit too much from your system blueboyz. What RAM are you running? What's running in the background at the same time i.e. A/V, etc. If you are looking at doing a lot of burning at 40X I think it's time for a system upgrade as an AMD 380 IMHO is sure gonna struggle with that sort of load put upon it.

I knew it wouldnt be writing to the max on my machine, its the reading of disks thats frustrating like 20minutes (pain).....writing the cd back is about 4 minutes which is good for the spec im running, thx

PSX CDs are not your standard data disk.
