Sometimes when i have tried to burn the odd MP3 that Ihave downloaded CDRWin comes up with an error message saying file is not cdrom compatible yet it plays on Winamp.

What do I need to do to the file to be able to burn it and why is that?

Cheers

I have downloaded several files that I've had trouble burning for one reason or another. Usually, I find the ones giving me trouble won't play in my windows media player but will play in other apps like musicmatch. Anyway, you can try this. It's the long way around the problem. If anyone else has a better solution, I'd be glad to hear it. I take the file and convert it into a wav file, then I take a re-write and burn the wav as an audio track. Take that and put it back on your computer as an mp3. Once that is done it should play and burn fine in any app you choose. Erase your re-write.

I can't really answer you on why the file won't burn to begin with. Some of the ones I've had trouble with have had some kind of data encoded into the file (like the CD cover). On others there is no cover. I use Sony CD Extreme and it tells me the file is not the right frequency even though when it was loaded into the list it claims that it is. I have burned them as a wav file along with mp3 files but it leaves an annoying static pop sound at the end of the wav file on the CD.

If you have Musicmatch Jukebox that would probably burn the file for you without all the converting and burning I mentioned above. They have a freeware version out there if your interested in getting it.

If the file was not stereo 44.1khz then I think most burning apps will have a problem..

No need to convert to wave then to CD then to mp3... You should just be able to go to wave then CD or just straight to a new mp3 if you want to keep it as an mp3.

Celtic, I've tried taking one of those files and converting it to a wav and then back to an mp3, my Sony still kicks it out and says it isn't the 44.1 frequency it's suppose to be. The only way I've found to change that is to burn it as a wav and then put it back on my computer as an mp3. For some reason that strips out whatever is in the file that doesn't belong in there.

MusicMatch will most likely NOT have a problem with burning the file. The only problem with using it is if you have the freeware version I don't think it allows you to burn at fast speeds.

When converting back to an mp3 you have to resample the file to 44.1kHz... If you convert a 22khz mp3 to a wave then it is still 22khz burning it would convert it to 44.1

Most burner software only seems to have a problem with mp3s with non CD quality sample rates etc. they can usually handle waves with 22khz sample rates, mono, etc.

Just use something like dBPowerAMP or CDEx to resample the MP3 to the same bitrate. It will have to be decompressed anyway to resample (although it won't actually have to be written to a wave file because the decmpression could take place in RAM). This will be a lot faster and take up less hard drive space than converting to wave and back to MP3. www.dbpoweramp.com
