Chris_H Apr 22, 2002, 04:00 AM Hi everyone, im new to these forums.
Im having some trouble with my plextor burner, its an EIDE 24x burner. Whenever i burn (ive tried a few different programs) The buffer meter bounces up and down... up to full, down to red, up to full, down to red. The burnproof kicks in so the CDs get burned, but a full cd takes 8mins+. Too slow for a 24x.
Ive enabled DMA mode on the unit, which is secondary master. That didnt do the trick. ASPI layer is 4.60.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanx
/Chris H
Van Nugent Apr 22, 2002, 04:07 AM Have you defrag'ed the HD recently?
Chris_H Apr 23, 2002, 04:55 AM No i havent actually... you think that could be it? Its an IBM 60gig 7200 rpm harddrive, i just assumed it would work. Ill try it though and see...
Van Nugent Apr 23, 2002, 05:12 AM You will not notice much at slow speed burning but for high speed burning, HD defrag is essential.
If you copy disc on the fly, make sure the reader is fast enough for the speed you want to burn at.
Chris_H Apr 23, 2002, 01:00 PM OK, thanx. I ran defrag, but when i click analyze it just says this harddrive needs defragmentation. Even though i just did that. Im running win2k.
cskeide May 02, 2002, 08:59 AM Chris_H: I have the excact same problem. I've tried Win2k, WinXP and different programs to write a disc. I've also defragmented my HD several times, but it just won't burn quickly.
I installed my CD-R driver into a mac ( :( ), and it worked perfectly!
I need help! Something else than defrag, please...
cskeide May 02, 2002, 10:53 AM Aha! Here's the solution:
Your ASPI layer it should be v4.60 (1021) Go here and D/L ASPI Check and run it. http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm
While your are there also D/L Force ASPI.
If your ASPI is out of date use this utility to update it. Just run the Dumpaspi.bat file followed by the Instaspi.bat file.
If you're running XP do this:
Go here & D/L Aspi.zip http://members.optushome.com.au/spamcatcher/aspi.zip
Run the aspi.bat file & Hit Enter twice
Once that's completed, run the aspi32.exe file, select upgrade, and Reboot.
... This worked for me!
Chris_H May 03, 2002, 12:52 PM My ASPI is 4.60. I think it might be bad media, cause a 12x burn went perfectly. Im gonna get some new CDs and se if it helps... The Defrag still wont work though, any ideas on that anyone?
