i have a 48x internal Creative reader and a 16/10/40 Plextor burner
whenever i try to make a CD-CD copy, my reader cant go faster than 7.3x and therefore i have to burn at 4x!!!!!!!!!!!
y does my 48x read sooooo slow!!!!!!!!!! this happens to Data CDs and possible other formats
i tried to do the drive tests with nero and others and the burner shows up as a 16/10/40 but the reader only reads at 7.3x
help me!!!!!!!!!!!

drive speeds are MAX speeds throughput and it also depends on the type of data is being read as to what speed the cd rom uses.
You have realy answered your own question....You need a faster or better cd reader. :)

any recomendations on what reader i should get? maybe a DVD one is better since the laser reads finer sectors and would work fine for cd-cd copies
i usually copy VCDs/psx/dc/music and other crap like that so it has to do cd-cd at 16x

You could go to www.cdspeed2000.com and look at test results and from that you could make a choice. For now you best method is to read an image to the hard drive then burn at the faster speed you want to use.You will get better results in the long run anyway as long as your PC is fast enough.
Good luck

From what you have said you use your reader for then the LiteOn Ltd-163 would be a perfect drive for you m8. It reads CD's at 48X and the DAE is fantastique! :D
Check out http://www.cdrinfo.com/ for all the tests on this drive.
