Of course there is such software, since professional producers use PCs as Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) to produce CDs. However, there is a simple way to do this and a more professional way.

The simple way is to just play the backing track and record your singing and the backing track simultaneously. You can use software like dBPowerAMP and the dMC Auxiliary Input Add On (www.dbpoweramp.com) to record using the Source 'What U Hear' (whatever is playing through the soundcard). You can record directly to MP3.

The more professional way is to rip the CD track to wave files (or MP3 files) and import them into a multitrack recording program. Then you can record (lay down) as many vocal tracks as you want, and when done mix the results to a stereo wave file. This gives you the advantage of recording multiple takes, overdubbing parts, using just the best sections of each take, and fine tuning the volume and effects of the tracks before mixing them down to a stereo file. Try the Power Tracks Pro Audio Demo (www.powertracks.com) for a good and cheap (under $30 US) multitrack recorder. I don't think you can record to MP3 with this product, but you can convert to MP3 using dBPowerAMP. However, the quality will be better if you burn the CD directly from wave files.

cheers keymaster thanx for the help,

i tryed this first,

played the mp3 backing track on media player,
at the same time operning sound recorder to record my voise
then mixing the 2 together.
strange think is they were out of sync???

strange because i lauched and played the2 programs at same time
yet when i finished mixing the 2 together my voise was singing before the music?

Sound Recorder may have been the problem. It wasn't designed to record from more than one source at a time. Recording from the MP3 output obviously has a latencey problem. I believe it limits you to less than 1 minute of recording time as well. Download and try dBPowerAMP, just be sure to download the dMC Auxilliary Input Add On from the same download page. You willl actually launch the dMC Input Add On from the dBPowerAMP menu.
