Hi
Just been given a Base Unit to have a look at for a m8,on Powering up
goes to floppy drive and asks for boot disk,try emergency disk but no joy
In the bios,No Hard Drives are detected and running Auto detect shows nothing installed either,Machine has a single 30 gig Hard Drive,is this Dead !! ?
Machine is running Win Me,he has had no problems with the drive before,just booted it up one morning and nothing ?
Just wondered if there could be anything else4 to check or is it a case of just bunging a new H.Drive in ?

Check the power and IDE connection to make sure they are plug-in correctly first :)

Some Bios' can disable the IDE Controller.

Poke around in BIOS and Check to see if the Primary IDE is enabled. You should see an Entry like:

IDE with options of Primary, Secondary or Both.

Try un-plugging any cd/dvd drives and check all the wires are in place.

Then try it again.

Checked bios,and wires unplugged ,hard drive makes no noise on booting up,so i,m pretty sure its drive,i am gonna try sticking the drive in my p.c. tommorow and see if it recognises it.I,ll let u know

It does sound like its bust. Maybe it's still covered by the original garentee?

No m8y,its out of warranty,plus its a Tiny pc,they had glued the bloody cables in the sockets !!

Wow, glued the cables, smart! The glue might have melted and buggered it.

That's why I always say TINY and TIME are RUBBISH!

Just an update on this,tried the hard drive in my P.C.its Dead
Have installed new 40 gig Hard Drive in P.C. ,Fdisk ok ,single partition,formatted drive
I have a problem now when i try to install 98 s.e. or Win M.E.
Use Start up floppy ,no probs,then when i try to run setup,either from floppy or cd drive.Scandisk runs and no probs,then goes to next stage and
i get
"Error Loading System.drv" and machine goes back to "A" Prompt or cd drive prompt,whichever i run Setup from !

Still no joy,just tried this
Boot from floppy with cd rom support. Change to the C prompt.
MD FLAT <ret>
CD FLAT <ret>
D: <ret> I assume D is your cd rom
CD WIN9X <ret> it's 9x for me or 98 for 98
DIR <ret> u should see files with .cab extension
COPY *.* C: <ret>
C: <ret> remove the cd
SETUP <ret>
Get the same results resets to
C:\FLAT>

What startup disk are you using, 98 or ME? And what OS are you trying to install?

Problem solved,was told to check cables,removed cables and there was some molten glue on 2 of the pins on the board,cleaned them carefully and reconnected
Bloody thing booted up first time !!
Thanks for all the help guys and dont buy a Pc from Tiny(Glue Boys !!!)
