topbloke Apr 27, 2002, 05:45 PM Hi,
I am building a new pc, and want mulitple cd writers in it. The motherboard i am using is the Abit AT7, and it has :-
4 channel UDMA133 RAID (supporting upto 8 devices)
2 channel UDMA133 (supporting upto 4 devices)
I already have a scsi pci card for attaching scsi cd writers, but i am wondering what to go for.
I have six bays in my case, 1 will be taken up by an ide dvd reader, another by the new pioneer dvd writer.
The hard drive will be a udma133 so that will be 3 devices used on ide.
I want TWO cd writers at first, but i may want to upgrade to using all my bays so i could want 4.
Recommendations of cd writers please, and also how i would set them up on my pc.
Thanks
shazco Apr 27, 2002, 06:21 PM maybe the CDRW forum 4 this?
MrMP Apr 28, 2002, 12:35 AM Yamaha 2100s (16/10/40) or Mirai (sanyo) BP4 16/10/40 both SCSI, thats about your choice if you can still find em, Sanyo do a 24 speed SCSI but it isnt available in uk. Fastest plextor SCSI is 12x . If you go ide you would have difficulty getting more than 2 writers to work, but there again you could use faster writers. Also depends which program you intend to use, for discjuggler all burners need to be exactly same, with nero or feurio you can use any combination even mixed SCSI/IDE.
topbloke Apr 28, 2002, 05:27 AM Thanks MrMP, i shall probably go scsi then. I have used Disk Juggler, but i am open to changing to another program if necessary. Is it possible to copy two different cds at once, if i had 2scsi and 2ide ? And used two different programs ?
MrMP Apr 28, 2002, 09:57 PM You can use 2 instances of nero or clone cd at once, but you might get occasional crash, if your system is pretty reliable though you should be ok.
BTW i saw mirai 24x scsi at a comp fair today 145 quid
selblock May 02, 2002, 07:46 AM i use ricoh cdrwers they are brilliant
smash May 03, 2002, 09:14 PM Plextors rule i recon especially the 24 speed one. and it does Safedisc v2 :)

DIABLO May 05, 2002, 05:15 AM If you do go IDE PLEXTOR are definatly the best but i have heard alot of good things about Liteon's apperently they are just rebadged Plextor's but cheaper.
king nero May 05, 2002, 11:04 AM lite-on aren't rebadged plextors !!!
they're alrite tho, can do SD2.5 and 2.6
VEFF May 05, 2002, 11:48 AM TEAC makes some great high quality affordable CD-RW drives.
Their new 40X CD-W540E has received high praise in official reviews at cdrlabs, cdrinfo and others.
They are built to last.
Topmovies2002 May 06, 2002, 04:43 AM yes m8, should have nom probs copying 2 different cds at once, I use a Liteon setup 2 24x writers and 2 dvd roms
