salsaholik Apr 28, 2002, 02:38 PM I have xp pro and i don't use windows messenger, everytime it pops up without my consent ,how can i delete it?? i cant do it from the add and remove programs, anyone knows?? Roger Moore Apr 28, 2002, 02:54 PM Open it and go into "preferences" in options and un-tick the first box. Roger Robins2001 Apr 28, 2002, 07:00 PM ok there is a file called, sysoc.inf located in the %systemroot%\inf folder, open it and replace all the HIDE with nothing, then save and goto remove windows programs. It will be there just uninstall somthing. salsaholik Apr 29, 2002, 12:12 AM hmm.......what exactly are you talking about? Lazza Apr 29, 2002, 05:24 AM OK here's the easy surefire way of removing Messenger from windows XP:- Open start select run and paste this:- RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove This will then prompt you to restart your computer. Mission acomplished! :D Be careful though every time you go to update Windows as Uncle Bill will keep on telling you porkies that you need to download it again and re-install as it is so vital to the stability of Win XP, yeah right! HTH :) Virgin San Apr 29, 2002, 08:55 AM Thats is a bit drastic. Roger Moore has it, all you need to do is tools - options and under the preferences tab uncheck the "Run this program when windows starts" option. If that doesnt work you can do the same thing using msconfig (go to run, type msconfig and root around for the messenger entry ). If you use one of the outlook family for email you will need to uncheck the "automatically log on to msn messenger" box under options in the tools menu. njps2 Apr 29, 2002, 10:18 AM nono u guys the kid wants to totally remove it..go to control panel>add remove programs> add/remove windows components. and then unclick the Windows messanger box and lick ok salsaholik Apr 29, 2002, 10:33 AM Nice try njps2, but windows xp has a way to hide the windows messanger...therefore, it cannot be done through control panel....I'll follow the instructions from the other guys when i get home thanx... i'll let you guys know also, I heard that there is a way to remove it through the registry ,is that true?? Yes, I gave you the exact way of removing it safely from Win XP in my earlier post. :round: Try it, it works. Trust me. The Magpies Apr 29, 2002, 06:53 PM If you want to completely remove it, Lazza gave you the remove string for the registry editor, if you to keep it but not in startup folder, Rogermoore, gave you the best solution, at least that way you can use it in future when needed, so just untick the box, and it wont load everytime windows start. Regards salsaholik Apr 29, 2002, 11:11 PM Thanks for the help, I followed lazza instructions, but did not prompt me to restart, but i don't see it no more, so i guess it finally worked...thx |
