You have a little viral infection...go to www.symantec.com...download kak removal tool

As an aside, how did Norton 'mess around with your e-mail settings' ?

thanks for the info, i ended up doing it manually and it`s sorted now.

e-mail settings, yes when i contacted freeserve they told me that it is common for norton to change outlook settings, but having now read a bit about the type of virus i realise that "kak.hta" was responsible !

when you iinstall nortons say 2000 2001 & earlier, the program changes your incoming mail to POP3 nortons etc..
This is your computer which now acts as mini server for emails coming in
it dowloads them on your system and scans for viuses then reroutes them to your email so you can receive them....(A brief explanation to just give you an idea in laymens terms...otherwise I could go on for ages on how it actually does it)...it does not connect back to symantec, just in case you thought it might.
