Keymaster, I had a post on this site about a month ago regarding the decoding of DTS CD's. You pointed me to a site with DTS encoding software. Due to a really stupid move on my part I no longer have that URL. could you please post it again?
One more question. Does anyone know how long a digital optical cable can be?

Roger, I think it was the Minnetonka Surcode Encoder (http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/). There are some other DTS links here: http://www.dtsonline.com/whatsnew.html
Not sure what the theoretical limit of digital optical cable is (it would depend on bandwidth), but I 've seen Toslink optical cables over 5 meters and I'm sure this is nowhere near the limit. Fiber optics do have advantages over metal cables.

Thanks Keymaster, yes that was the site. I did find it also through some links at DTS online but I wasn't sure if that was the same one you had posted.
Yes, fiber optics does have many advantages over an analog high impedance line. I need to get the signal from my computer in the den out to the stereo in the living room. The total distance would be about 30-40 feet and I would much rather run a digital line then analog.

There is also coax diigital but optical digital will be superior to that. The big problem will be cost, as optical digital cables aren't cheap.
Hosa makes TosLink cables up to 15 meters (50 feet) long. They are available from http://www.klay.com/shop/cables/fiber.htm#mic for between $60 to $77.50 US depending on the quality.
Roger, I found a vendor that discounts these Hosa cables (the Klay.com prices are list prices). Midi-Classics offers the same $77.50 cable for $56.00 and discounts the other cables listed as well: http://www.midi-classics.com/c/c14728.htm
I have purchased many Hosa cables at local music stores, and purchased a Hosa s/pdif digital coax cable which I use to link my soundcards. The digital coax cable which can also be used as a high quality analog coax is only $15 for 20 feet.

Great information. Thank you very much for the reply.
