Oh... yes there is always a way to solve a problem. Use TweakUI (http://www.pcforrest.freeserve.co.uk/tweakui.htm) to close some of it's features which eventually eats up resources.

Tool,

He ask to free them, not asked what's the best OS.

Windows Me is not complete trash, just get rid of the system restore and it's a great os alternative.

The best way is to download "Me System Restore Remover" from www.definition-software.com/ It's a free tool that is both safe and easy to use and ALL changes are easily reversed (but I've never known anybody who wanted to). Me with system restore removed is as stable as Win 2K IMO. I still use Win Me on my main system as it works perfectly for me, no crashes, stability probs or software conflicts with games/emu's etc.

Too much cr@p has been spoken in the past about Win Me, don't believe it. I have had far more problems with Win 98 systems, that's why I rarely even install it on a customers PC these days. The last thing I need are irate customers with "blue screen of death syndrome" phoning me all the time. Now I only install Me & XP I rarely get anyone ringing with O/S related problems. :)
