Is it possible to wear out your burner, mine is just a cheapy and is over 4 years old. Recently it would burn, but nothing is readable. The computer will show the file name but if you atttempt to play it, all you get is dead air, for the duration of the song or file.

Yep you can burn them out. Somewhere I read that a burn starts to wear out at 1000 burns. Not sure if this is true or not but I know my old Memorex started making nothing but coasters when it was like 3 years old.
