I want to d/l a couple of movies to get an idea of what sort of quality to expect from vcd & svcd with my DVD player. WinMX seems to be the only place I can find any, but spend most of my time queueing.....

Direct Connect seems a bit hit & miss, and Morpheus seems to have some, but they always seem to have a long queue.....

Never had any joy with mirc......seem to be full of wierdo's......! Probably the best place for ftp though, I guess......

ftp... ya they got good quality usually but... u have to find the ftp, u have to put p/w and login and the u d/l a txt file that tells u u have to got this site (usually porno) and sign up and etc... then u can d/l
but mirc its easy to find everything all u do is go to list channels put vcd/movies and they give u like 100 place for vcd/movies even tho u usually have to wait to d/l u usually get good quality (they even tell u wut quality it is)

if u going to be using mirc, use dalnet or efnet networks (i use dalnet most of the time) unless u know better who cares as long as we get movies right ;)

Newsgroups are the best in my opinion.. let's compare:

Chance of losing your connection because the other guy logged off before download finished:

Newsgroups: 0%
Morphious, Imesh, DirectConnect, etc: 50%
Ftp: 5%

Average connection speed (with broadband):
Newsgroups: 200 - 300 Kb/sec
Morphious, Imesh, DirectConnect, etc: 10 kb/sec
Ftp: 20 - 50 kb/sec

These two factors alone put newsgroups on top in my opinion.. it's true that if you have a crappy news server, posts can be incomplete, but with the new parity (PAR) files that have hit the scene, the problem of incomplete posts have almost dissapeared. The only reason to use one of the other services is if your looking for one specific movie.

Dave is right, newsgroups are the best, but I cannot seem to find a good NNTP server to use in my Free Agent. What should I be using?

I got 41 movies this past week! I just queue about 50 of them then leave it alone for a few days. On average, i get 10-40 movies a week from there.

Does mirc have a resume feature - ok, they other guy might not disconnect but my crappy AOL may well do. Could i pick up where i left off?
