i have just installed xp and need to update driver as have no sound at present as on 98 u used to go into my comp and a list of hardware came up with manufacturer of all hardware where do i find this on xp so i can download relevant driver

Well, the device will be displayed as Unkown Device, you should have take notes before you installed the new O/S, however, you have to open the case and read the label on your sound card, if its onboard, look for the sound chip.
