i've got a couple of problems that i can't sort on 2 PC's running XP.

1. since i've added an extra user to the PC's, when the screensaver kicks in, and i go back to the PC to resume working, i have to log in again. i have disabled the 'on resume, password protect' setting in display properties, and can't find any other setting regarding this

2. a program is trying to dial out and a box comes up saying 'a program is requesting access to the internet', but i can't find out which program it is. i have disabled XP auto update, auto updating on all norton progs, and i only have office 2000 running otherwise. how do i find out what is responsible, and stop it.

in desktop properties there is a check box asking if you want the welcome screen displaying. Uncheck it.

get a fire wall and it will let you know what the sofware is. I recomend zone alarm for your problem

have un-checked that box, but nothing changes...only way to stop it is to disable the user password.
the firewall doesn't pick up the program, as IE is being used by whatever is trying to dial-up, and that has to be set to 'allowed' to access the internet..

If you really want to know what program is trying to dial out then you could always delete all of the rules.

That way you'll know.

it still comes up as IE is trying to access the internet, not the program causing it..

check your connections. go to START, and you will see a CONNECT TO panel on the right. Expand that panel and see if there are any connections. What type of connection do you have?

it is a normal dial-up on the PC with the problem
