The PS2 was not made to play dual layered sigle sided discs (this comes directly from a sony rep) Thier is a way to get around it though supposedly.

Turn on your PS2, when the Browser/Systems Configuration screen comes up press the "triangle" /_\ button on the controller highlight "console" and press the "triangle" button again, You shoud see "diagnosis: off". Press "X" on the controller highlight/choose "on" and then press "X" on the controller. Disc Diagnosis is now "ON". Now press "O" to go back to the previous menu.

Now highlight "Playstation Driver", and press the "triangle" button on the controller. You'll now see a screen with "Disc Speed: Standard" and "Texture Mapping". Highlight/Choose "Disc Speed" and press "X" on the controller. Highlight/Choose "Fast". Disc Read Speed is now "FAST". Now press the "O" button Twice to go back to the Browser/System Configuration screen.

DO NOT TURN YOUR PS2 OFF! DOING SO WILL ERASE FROM THE PS2's MEMORY ALL THAT YOU"VE JUST DONE ABOVE!

Now put in your Dual layered DVD movie and play it STRAIGHT THROUGH. Do Not stop the movie/pause/or choose from the scene selection.

Just play the movie from beginning to end and it shouldn't freeze when it gets to the second layer. And you shouldn't get the Disc Read Error message.

This has worked for me on numerous dual layered/problem discs! It has never failed. It even helps with discs that are scratched. (It of course won't work if the disc has a DEEP scratch.)

Hope this helps,

How can it offer DVD play-back, yet not be designed to play dual-layer DVD's?

99% of movies are on dual-layer DVD's.

Most DVD players have a slight pause at the layer transition.

Thats what i was thinking m8, there is no way the ps2
cant read dual layered dvds because if it didnt then
it would only be able to play about 2 movies, or a few more.
