Muppet2002 May 04, 2002, 06:02 AM Hi guys
I have an elite K7 s5a mobo, i with a AMD 1700+ Cpu,
However... its only running at 1100 MHz, I think because i have still not upgraded my memory ( 2 chunks of PC100- 320mb in total )
I guess i need to upgrade to DDR memory ?
If so, whats the " league table " of Memory ?
i.e this memorys best, then this one, then this one, dont even try this one . etc... ?
I'm looking to have about 512mb - is that too much ? and how much will it cost me ?
A lot of questions i know, but im a bit stuck here !
TIA
AceRickford May 04, 2002, 06:05 AM Hi Muppet2002,
It sounds as though your FSB is only running at 100mhz not 133. What you need to do is to go into the bios and go to hardware options and there should be one bit that allows you to change the Hostclk/Memory to 133/133. I am guessing it is set as 100/100. Change this and this should work. Any extra help required lemme know.
Cheers,
Ace
AceRickford May 04, 2002, 06:08 AM Hi Muppet2002,
Didn't read the whold of your email, but I notice you have currently PC100 SDRAM, so change the value on hardware options to 133/100.
That should be okay.
You will be okay with SDRAM, but DDR is quicker.
Cheers,
Ace
Muppet2002 May 04, 2002, 06:08 AM Thanks, but shouldn't it be at 100 as my memory is pc100 ?
AceRickford May 04, 2002, 06:13 AM refer to my second post.
Cheers,
Ace
Muppet2002 May 04, 2002, 06:13 AM ok, it didn't allow 133/100 - only 100/100 100/133 and 133/133 so i have set it at 133/133
All seems to be working ok, and it now recognises the cpu as a AMD 1700 +, but am i now overclocking the memory ?
Also - should i upgrade my memory to ddr ?
and as above - what type of ddr ?
TIA
AceRickford May 04, 2002, 06:21 AM Hopefully, the memory will be okay at 133, it you start getting strange errors it would be due to this. But I have in the past had PC100 memory running at 133 with no probs.
I would recommend you upgrade the memory to PC133 or even DDR like you were saying. The best place to go for memory prices is www.ebuyer.com they are pretty good. 256mb should be enough, 512mb is nice to have but not necessary. Get 2100 DDR if you can. This is faster than bog standard 1600.
Cheers,
Ace
