i found this 2 site from there. http://www.konsoll.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=204 , and http://www.xboxmods.co.uk/

It is true, however the games released can only be played on a dev machine. It is rumored that the neo-x will let you play backups but I haven't seen anything to confirm that rumor yet.

so it's not far from cracking the xbox.

May 04, 2002, 09:29 PM
So that mean Project X have a dev machine?

May 04, 2002, 10:09 PM
I don't have an X-Box (nor do I think I ever will, though the games look great) ... but I can't help but be a bit cynical about this release. (releases?) I've only got Shrek but nothing to test it on.

what is a dev machine?

yes, once the xbox is chipped and is capable of playing backups expect the sales of hardware to increase. i will be a person buying one myself. i was hoping the xbox would drop in price, but with this i guess xbox will not drop their prices after all.

Just go to

www.ps2-news.org they seem to keep up to date on the X-BOX SCENE

Microsoft said that their profit will mostly be from software, not hardware. Guess they will have some hard time now.

DC Fisherman
May 05, 2002, 04:50 AM
not really. u are talking about microsoft... beside, most people don't play backups. and let ms worry about their profit. we should worry about how to get a dvd writer.

king nero
May 05, 2002, 05:57 AM
DC's right: i'm getting one as soon as i can order them on-line, chipped and all, and then i still need a dvd writer. damn costs much, but it pays off... after some dozens of copies.
Are games on dvd's copyprotected anyway?

Robins2001
May 05, 2002, 06:00 AM
we will just have to play the games that will fit onto cd's :(

The only protection is the DVD9 format. However now that it is known that there are backups we can assume that future releases will have some form of protection.

is there any chance of a xbox forum now that the xbox is finally cracked (that would be great) or do we have to post in here and flood it with xbox questions till one is made :D

May 05, 2002, 06:37 AM
But how will we copy the games. Even with a dvd burner the PC still can't read the original disks.

DC Fisherman
May 05, 2002, 11:55 AM
because some of the files i saw are huge. so i assume that project X will ripped the game, but people can download it and burn it into a dvdr. because some games are huge. look at # of files below:

Get ready to skate, grind and trick to a new beat. "Jet Set Radio
Future"(Jet Grind Radio 2) is a next-generation street action game
for Xbox that delivers fast-paced action, new awesome tunes and an
artistic look that's truly ground-breaking.

* New, more powerful tricks - grind up the side of a building while
executing multiple combos!

* Cooperative and competitive multi-player modes - work together or
try to foil each other's plans

* Cartoon dimension art style - 2D meets 3D in a unique and
refreshing blend

* Cutting edge hip-hop and techno soundtrack to keep you grooving to
the beat

We tested this game on a developer XBOX, and it works. Since there is
no mod chip yet, we have no idea if this release will work on retail
XBOXes when/if a mod comes out. However, now that there is a release,
a modchip developer will be inclined to get our releases to work, so
we think a future mod will work with this release.

If a game is small enough to be burned to a CD, you can burn it to
either a CD or DVD, at your option, using the same ISO file.
The Xbox does not use media checks like the PS2.

When burning to a CD, if your CD burning program has an option,
choose "MODE1/2048", exactly as if you were burning a PC CD-ROM.
We recommend PrimoDVD for burning Xbox for both CD and DVD, but
all CD writing software besides Clone CD should work fine.

From our experience, the retail Xbox can only read DVD-RW's
and CD-RW's, so if you want to be sure that these will work
with a future mod, we recommend burning them to Rewritable
discs. We have heard reports of the retail Xbox reading some
types of DVD-R discs, but we have been unable to verify this.

this is a very good idea as there are many x-box posts throughout the different forums and it would be good to have its own forum, even though we are not yet able to make working backups of our x-box games yet but it would be good to share info

How do you know if you've got a developer machine, because I got an x-boc that plays both UK and US games, but as far as I can see, thats the only difference ?

Robins2001
May 06, 2002, 08:38 AM
no m8, i dev box isnt a console, its like a pc but costs like $20,000. i think its used for developing software for the x-box

May 06, 2002, 09:42 AM
goto the link below, it says the xbox has been hacked but you do not need a dev machine.

It looks like the games will work off cdr and I assume some games will be dvdr. Just like the ps2 I guess

Robins2001
May 06, 2002, 11:06 AM
thats a dvd-r or rw in the vid, not a cdr

May 06, 2002, 12:05 PM
the chip for the xbox will bet out in 1-2 weeks as the xbox on the video had a bios chip but the chip thats coming out will be about the same price as the neo 4 for the ps2

Robins2001
May 06, 2002, 12:27 PM

and will these bios chips be available to the public or a method of flashing the origanal bios

scottish nutter
May 06, 2002, 12:33 PM

Robins2001
May 06, 2002, 12:45 PM

scottish nutter
May 06, 2002, 12:51 PM
iv no idea about the bios chip all i know is the chip we will get will be like the neo 4 for the ps2 and about the same price and should be out in a few weeks, i dont see any reason for them to lie or fake the video as im sure i know who was playing the game in the video

Robins2001
May 06, 2002, 01:20 PM
if you know him could you try and find out more about the bios chip as if there was a diy way to do it, it would make things alot better.

i personally dont think it is a fake but am getting alot of mixed info from people, (it will/wont read dvd'r(w), cd'r(w) etc etc)

scottish nutter
May 06, 2002, 02:18 PM
i dont know him personally but i think i know who he is, i used to by my games from him but i stay far from where they are and i never go there now as i get my games cheaper from this board, and as for people saying it will and wont play dvdr and cdr the only people who realy know are the people that have tried them

Oh this could be great year for X-box owners!! VCD, SVCD Players, Divx, Web Browsers. and emulators galore! I"m starting to save up right this instant....course I wouldn't have to if I hadn't decided to ditch my box a couple of weeks ago. =(

What kinds of protection are on the discs anyways???

So these backups are booted directly?

Nice!

30 wires though on these chips....ouch
hehe

Yeah, I have noticed a lot of X-Box releases floating around the scene, so I came here to find out what in the world is going on. Looks like ProjectX has the upper hand so far.

Way to go guys!

What about this site, they claim the chip is nearly ready to ship. Not sure if you already new this, if you did sorry for posting old news.

I was reading on a site today that one chip is already finished and just about ready to be shipped, then I saw the video that Raptor from Neo released just to shut the xtender people up and prove that their chip was ready long ago. Anyways, the video for Neo was pretty funny, I don't know if I can link this but if not, mods, please delete - the best site for news is definitely the one below.

www.xbox-scene.com - you can find the link for the Neo vid there.

Later, Super
