Various peeps have suggested using FTP search sites instead of the morpheus type applications for downloading SVCD/Divx movies. Using an engine such as www.oth.net does indeed povide references to sought after movies etc HOWEVER I NEVER seem to be able ot connect to any of these FTP sites.

I either get 'Server returned extended information' - which I assume to mean that the server is busy/full

OR

I have to follow a complicated 'Do not pass Go Do not collect 200 pounds' type procedure usually involving wading through hundreds of popups to find/use a password which still doesnt work!

Please does anyone have any tips/suggestions on using these type of sites and maybe some other search engines??

best way is to join a private FTP group then you get access to all the members FTP sites

You are using a proper ftp programme?

The point is that nearly all games/vcd etc are on ftp first

Get something like CuteFTP and connect to them through that.
FTP is good as you find stuff on these FTP servers that you won't get on Winmx, Kazaa etc.
You do realise that 99% of these sites have ratio accounts where you have to upload something first in order to get credit to be able to download files.
Works fine if you've got a fast-ish connection (cable/ADSL and above).
If you've got a standard 56k modem...don't bother!!
Start your own FTP server and put a few wanted films/games on it and you'll get plenty of people wanting to swap their own films/games with you!

i wouldnt bother with oth.net m8, most of the sites it lists r crap! 9/10 it will be a ratio site where u have to upload requested stuff before u can download what u wanted or the site will ask u to signup to some other site (mostly **** sites) before they give u the login in details & password! and i bet they dont even send u the password after or the sites actually empty.

Yeah, the sites on oth are crap! Try to find some private boards and join! You will get alot better deal than some crappy 3:1 ratio.. and usually their ftps have good speeds.

OK thanks guys - so what is the best place to find private FTP sites. I have loads of latest movies on SVCD/Divx plus games and have a 512k connection so dont mind setting up my own FTP site ?

I had a ratio server and got loads of decent stuff uploaded to me, I think it's pretty good......still........can't please everyone!!

The FTPs on sites like that never work. Your best bet is to ask your friends with fast lines to set up private FTPs.
