hi
can someone give me a bit of info on playing vcd's on my samsung 709 dvd player,vcd's are backups on cd roms,i have tried using cd rw's but i get skipping and i know the disc is fine on a friends sony dvd player.

i have a sammy 709 and the only cdrs i have got to work are the following

sirius cdrs (get them from computer fairs )
superior cdrs ( computer fairs)
vivastar (Argos)

you should also burn at x2 speed for best results

if your player is not multiregion and macrodisabled
try hack below

Samsung 709 remote control!!!!!
The hack is the same as the one for the Thomson DTH-3300 and goes like this:


remove any discs from your 709 and power the player up

press REPEAT on the Samsung remote control

enter the following numbers: 3 8 7 6 7
a number will now be superimposed over the Samsung logo on your TV screen - this number represents the current region setting of the player (e.g. for region 2 you will see 02)


now press the number of the region you would like your 709 to become:

1 = region 1
2 = region 2
9 = region free setting (probably the best unless you've got an RCE region 1 disc)

press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of your 709

press the red DVD POWER button on the Samsung remote

power the player back on and insert a disc of your choice

you can also use princo 80 minute discs.

i burn vcds in nero 5.5.4.0, using 4x burn speed.
