I'd love an X-box chip. From what I've read, there's ALREADY a completed chip that works. But will a multi-gazillion dollar company like Microsoft allow this to happen? NO WAY. The minute the chipmakers poke their heads above ground (i.e. have a website), Microsoft will be there to shut them down. It'll be Neo4 / Messiah all over again... here today, gone later today. Let's not get our hopes up too high.

You may be right about that. The modchip info I've seen though is fake. (kinda) Even the ppl that have the video of the thing have even said it's a work in progress so it may be a while, we'll see....... CFizz

You must remember that illegal software replication on game consoles is not relatively know about in the general public. I am a network engineer by profession and you would be surprised how few people, even in my line of work, are familiar with the existance of console modchips. The average person does not think about cracking their box open, soldering or paying someone to solder multiple wires on a modchip, and buying burned copies of games from the likes of us on this forum. Statisticly, we constitute a very small margin of Sony and Microsofts market. In addition, it would not be cost effective or even feasible for Microsoft to track down underground vendor, especially in China and other Asian countries. Every OS Microsoft has released has been copied thousands of times over, and they are still the billion dollar giants, pirates and all.

of who ever sells the chips or the people who make them and its
not a good idea to sell the x box games on this forum as they would
be shut down for good
sony are to way soft but microsoft like to protect there little baby
somwhere they be talking about this and making plans
ever to alter the software on the games or patch the machine up with
a new update to stop the mod chips working
time will tell what will happen as for going underground microsoft
will simply sue people that think of fitting it in there machine
as the new like that came out say u can not alter the software on the
machine

time will tell for sure what will happen i would advice no one on this
forum sells the games as they will sure be a target for microsoft
and of course they would eat them up and spit you back out

Dudes, NO ONE can stop modchips from being sold, used, distributed, or bought. Period!!

I have to agree with some of the peeps. Microsoft will try to stop i think but the company who are developing it will probably not expose it to much. Doing this means other companies will buy some and then there be to many making it that Microsoft wont be able to stop it as there are many versions of the chip.

Hope this makes sence lol ;)

i dont think microsoft will hear about it as the developers will keep it quiet because of what happened with sony and channel tech

This isn't a big secret, you can bet your house that Microsoft are all over this, only problem is it is going to be very difficult for them to stop the chip makers in Asia.

Mark my words the chip will come from HK and/or China and Microsoft will nto be able to stop them, where there is a will there is a way!

Does anyone realise that you dont even need a modchip, just desolder your bios chip, re-flash it with the new bios with media and signed code checks taken out, resolder it bobs your uncle.

yeah i see your point but i dont see what the problem is about modchips yeah the bad thing piracy but on the other hand import games so why cant they just make one console or optimse the games so there all the same

microsoft if your reading this dont you want the xbox to sell so leave it for a bit then people will buy it hoping they can get a chip then deal with it

i know at least a 100 sites from where i can download WINDOWS XP from and microsoft have not did nothing about it this is because they can not.

i agree with most of the people, if x-box is chipped then i might just consider buying one...

Microsoft will not be able to stop a chip from being available. You will always be able to get one on the black market. Reputatble large companies will not be able to sell them but they will be readily available. It is just like the drug trade. You will never be able to go to major grocery store or drug store in and by Marijuana but you can easily get ahold of it anywhere in the U.S. with very low risk. It will be the same situation with an XBOX mod chip.

Marijuana is illegal and look at how easy it is to aquire that stuff... same thing with everything. Just takes a few extra minutes

LOL @ thegoathearder. backup2k1, do you know why the chips have 29-31 wires? i will tell you, look at the chip pics posted, the rectangle is actually a bios chip the other is a lattice, the bios simply contains a hacked bios to run unsigned code, basically turning the box into a pc. there is no way microsoft can circumvent this with software updates as i am sure that tha lattice may have some type of write protect fo the new bios chip ;)

well we can only see what happens the companys that who have made
it will sure be a target for microsoft law people
they might be able to combat this with a simply update for the box
but good look can hardly wait to see what happens with this new modchip
that if it does take off before it gets banned

and i bet the chips has been copied of the xbox dev kit and just put
into a bog standard xbox

i have known people to get sued of sony for just putting the modchips
in there machine and sony has won

the laws are changing for something like this not to happen at all

this is a good discussion here. ill put my 2 sense in even though i dont plan on getting an xbox. ill one day get a gc when the time comes(lol)! ms is no tighter than sony. if they come up w/ a way to detect a mod or something, some1 will come up with a patch or something. look how long it took sony to catch up w/ mods. it was like the 8th one to surface or something. people are correct about being able to get ms pc s/w if wanted. even pc game backups. i wonder if those are playable online? i see no reason why not though. also their are tons of laws/admendments no one knows about(even me). but i heard one along the lines of this recently.. the views of people on a discussion board,etc. dont necessarily reflect the views of the people that run the board. therefore, they cannot be necessarily prosecuted, etc. im sure there's a way around all laws but thats just how it is.

microsoft will end up catchin the people that make the chip like sony caught the messiah developers and the neo producers!
