just d/l a 800mb divx. the movie is about 1hr 30min. the pic is good and large (500?x???), not the usual small size. i'm trying to use tmpeg to convert it.

1. the lowest bitrate that tmpeg will use is 2000, but the file size will be like 25% too big for the dvd disc. if i use this them resample to make it smaller, will the pic still be ok on tv?

2. tmpeg can't decode the audio. i install divx 3.11 alpha, 4, and 5. i can play/hear the movie fine with media player and divx player. ami i missing something?

thanks for any help..

90min movie 800mb @ 512x???, whoever encoded that didn't know what they were doing.. I can get a 90min movie to 700mbs at 640x??? and it still looks and sounds sweet.

TMPGEnc has trouble with VBR mp3 audio... try decoding it to a PCM wave file with Virtual Dub. Although it just occured to me, that it is possible that it uses AC3 audio (this would explain the file size), in which case you would not need to rencode it.

At a bitrate of 2000 a 90min movie would be well below the size of a DVD.

thanks for the tip. virtualdub said the audio was vbr. i ripped the wav from the avi, and use that instead of the avi itself. the funny thing is that the estimated new mpg file size is smaller eventhough i increase the bitrate to 4000+.
