I'm having this problem with my mouse hanging up and its also very jerky, especially when on the net. Pages seems to take forever to load, are they just don't load at all. I have a dial up but its never takin this long. I don't know if its a problem with my system or with my ISP. Using Pent III 750,
Seagate 40GB Drive, 384MB ram, Diamond Supra 56K PCI Modem, win98se, Earthlink Internet. Called Earthlink, naturally there's no prooblem on their end. Up until recently I could do other functions (even open two browsers)while surfing or downloading. Now it takes like three minutes just to get my homepage to come up. Any clues??? Thanks in advance.

Is there a lot of hard disk activity?

Do you have a lot of free space left?

Roger, I don't understand what you mean by hard disk activity. I have 34GB available on the drive.

I mean does the hard drive light stay on a lot?

Is your computer just slow at viewing websites or is it slow all the time?

also are you using their 'internet connection' software? you know their browser, e-mail, ect.
if so, create an new network connection using one of their access #'s and try that with internet explorer. If it works better, then update IE and get rid of all the earthlink software. their own tech support suggested the course of action for me once...

No the HDD light is not on at all times. Puter seems to be running slow all the time now. Even when doing word processing work and other functions. Can't get scan disk or defrag to run either. They keep starting over and I get messages saying I have other programs running, which I don't . Could my HDD be crapping out on me. It's only a few months old. I don't use the Earthlink software for anything, running IE6 and using it as my homepage.

If the whole pc is running slow then it might be a good idea to reformat.

What other programs do you have running in the background?

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I think fixed my problem. When I deleted all the Earthlink software I failed to delete the registry files for earthlink manager in the startup collection. Evidently Earthlink decided I needed to update my management files. Called earthlink today and this wonderful lady helped me out. computer and Internet seems to be working fine. Thanks again for all the input and help, really appreciate it.
