I'm thinking about getting a PS2 or Xbox...which should I get.. each system has its pros and cons

I think the xbox has the potential to be better, but I would wait and see what games arrive for the xbox, in the next few months, I think the system will go down in price again also and that the games will come down. PS2 is over a year old also so imagine what games the xbox might have in that time

here we go again....

Get a PS2. i can be chipped and it the best. It has all the good games, and support behind it. The X-box may be the most powerful console out there, but It has poor games.

p.s. dpmanx you seem to have answered your own question...they both have their advantages and disadvantages...figure out what's most important to you and make your selection based on that...good luck!

get a ps2 if you want gameplay or get an x box if you want good

get a ps2 as i have both and still prefer the ps2 it has a good catalogue of games and can be modded

the xbox is good but there isn't a lot of games out for it the only good thing about xbox is the graphics

it has to be the xbox, same price better technology.
Can be chipped and copied games are available.
Playstation is old tech now and sony will be bringing out new console in a year or so where as microsoft will be putting all their considerable resources behind the xbox for quite a while to come.

I'd go for the xbox cos of the quality of the games, and ive got both ps2 and xbox. what people forget is the xbox hasnt even been out 2 months, compared with 2 years ps2. ps2 had a very bad launch titles, like ridge racer 5, fantavision (lol) and didnt have ANY AAA games for 5 months.

in brief...

games

xbox got 5 AAA titles, more than ps2 had for first 8 months in its life, so all that stuff about poor games is bollox. its broadband out of the box, u can have 32 player games using the lan, 4 controller ports, no need for memory cards.

1. halo - better than mgs2 and many hours more gameplay, in my opinion best game since the original mgs.
2. project gotham - more fun than gt3, u can choose to listen to your cds as the soundtrack
3. rallysport challenge - photorealistic graphics, much faster than rally part of gt3.
4 jet set radio - quality, amazing graphics, even better playability.
5. dead or alive 3 - best fighting game ever, much better than virtua fighter four/tekken four.

xbox chips out end next week too. buy one with the modification.

many of the ps2 games coming out will be much better on xbox like spiderman, colin mccrae 3, turok, etc.

and many exclusives - panzer dragon, shenmu 2, 3, crazy taxi 3, project ego, halo 2 etc etc

all games run 60hz 18% faster than ps2.

basically ps2 has got

1. mgs 2
2. gta 3 - better version out on xbox soon
3. devil may cry
4. final fantasy 10
5. gt 3
6. ico
and the rest are average to poor.

xbox - all games ive played are digital 5.1 in game, halo incredible 3d sound.
ps2 - only a couple use dolby digital, no in game effects

future

ps2 - mid point in its life, mgs2 was the pinacle of ps2 power, only way is down, not many good exclusive games coming soon, bar medal of honour.
gt4 is 18 months off, wont be as good as xbox racers, neva.
xbox - future is a little uncertain sales wise, although recent price cut has led to massive jump in sales, level with ps2 now. m$ has invested a cool billion so they wont let it fail like sega with with the DC.

bottom line, now xbox is same price as ps2, ps2 looks like old technology.

magnavox pong. big ugly yellow and yellowing console. 7 built in games (hockey, tennis, fantasyrealism, etc.) no mangled hands controllers (twist your way to success). unique, scarce, conversation piece, unrated for nonviolence/asexualism/nonreligious/nonunamerican, challenging (to convinve people to play, not to quit, not to hold a grudge).
or be a cardcarrying spineless arse and buy into multiple bits, exceptional gameplay, realistic graphics crap and buy into the whole ps2/xbox/dc/gc industrial complex.

PS2 because of the wide variety of PS2 & PS1 games available...
