Just recently bought a new computer athlon 2000 XP cpu with 512Mb ram,but have found that modem connect speed is averaging 33600bps where as my old Pc was 333Mhz cpu but was averaging 49333bps. contacted shop where they told me to get in contact with BT and ask them to increase my line gain. I have done and now the fastest i have connected is 45333bps but still averaging just under 40000bps.

Why is this? Is there any way i can improve this?

Modem is a Intel data/fax modem V90 56K PCI

Anyhelp would be appreciated!!!

Cheers in advance.

Ring them again and ask them to increase it again.

Are you using the same phone socket and the same ISP?

Getting a true 56K is almost impossible.

Unless you live right next to your local exchange and have an amazing ISP that nobody else uses!

49333bps is excellent and 45333bps is about the aveage.

Oops.... Just wanna tell you something..... the speed which is showing up is not a ISP connection speed but the speed at which Modem is connected to your Port.

HTH!!
