So plugged the hub into the USB hole and then plugged the USB modem into the hub?

I'm not trying to insult you but is it on? I have the same modem and i've never seen a red light.

Is it the left light on the modem that is flashing red?

USB devices are designed to be removal devices, you should not and do not have to un-installed the software each time you unplug it. Also, alot of USB hubs have a switch on them for either Self-Powered or External Power. Make sure it's switched to external power.

Try these steps:

Unplug all the USB devices.

Plug the modem directly into the computer. (Does it work? If not then you have other problems that are not related to the hub)

Now unplug the modem and plug in the Hub. Let Windows finish detecting the hub. After the hub is installed plug the modem into the hub.

I trust you HAVE attatched the power suppy to the hub?
An unpowered hub can't supply as much power to a port as a powered port (like on the back of a pc). Is the power light on the hub on?

I got one of those hubs about 6 months ago. It was never happy running my ADSL modem. The modem draws so much power that after about an hour the power regulator on the hub would overheat & the hub would shutdown.
Hope you have better luck...

finnaly done it,i just installed the adsl drivers again, plugged in the usb hub,let xp detect it and then i plugged my modem in,works class now:)

Richskie-Wiil My USB Hub Automatically Shut down if it overheats, bit worried that it might fry because these acatel modems draw so much power, you would think it was running my whole computer

It seems to reduce the power available when it overheats. These means the modem drops out but if does seem ok if you let it cool down a bit.

I took mine back as I bought it especially to try & correct disconnection problems with my modem.

B.T.W. the USB ports on a pc are not all the same.
I've got four on mine & the modem drops out if I use it on 2 of them.
If you still have probs you might try it in a different port.
Basically these modems are very marginal in the amount of power they draw for a usb port.
