every folder i click on,instead of it opening to all the files in the folder,it opens the search companion....if i right click on the folder the first option in the menu should be OPEN but instead i have SEARCH...can someone assist?

It sounds like something/somebody has changed the reg so that it does that.

Have you got any programs that modify the right click menu?
