Is it possible using commonly available software and hardware, to create a backup of a PSX game that does not require a mod chip to be insalled in the PSX? I own the latest version of clonecd and a LiteOn 24x writer that supports raw96 and efm encoding.

I dont think so. Only way I think is when you burn it to a black bottom cdr. Otherwise you will need to mod your psx so it can read different types of media. anyways you can prolly get a mod chip cheap nowadays for the psx.

No burner can write the boot sectors, so you need some kind of mod device.
