I have 4 HDs and I am currently using XP. I do a lot of DVD copying but find that a lot of software crashes using XP.
Is there a way I can setup Windows 98 on a HD so I can just switch to that system to process my DVDs and then go back to XP to burn them to disc??
Cheers

You can duel boot them.
The easiest way to do it is to install 98 first then XP.

Just doing the same thing myself! I installed a new HD but had xp on my old drive. All I did was disable the old drive in cmos and then boot from floppy to the new drive which should be set to auto in cmos (mines on a pci card so it automatically detects it). Install win me & seems to work like a dream. I intend to install xp as dual boot eventually but for now all I need to do is enable the XP drive and make it first boot device and it boots up. It also shows up the new drive so I have access to that as well. (Any probs email me for a more detailed explanation m8)

Do the 2 OS have to be on different HDs or can I jusr partition the master HD and have 1 OS on each partition??

No, you can put both O/S on the same HDD on seperate partitions. But if you are doing this make sure you install Win 98 first and then XP.

Right. I have had to unpartition my 40gb main HD and I have formatted it and installed Win98.
What do I do now to make it dual bootable with XP?
Please can someone explain so I don;t screw it up again. I have already had to reformat 4 times :(
Cheers

As Lazza said, you need to install Win 98 first, then install Win XP from 98 in a new partition. If you try to install Win 98 after XP, it'll give you $#!tloads of problems.
One thing you could do; I remember HarryO (I think, maybe Hoss) posting a few months back that he used a small booting program on a small partition (something like 40meg) an the first drive, from which he could select either OS. Do a search on HarryO or Hoss posts in this forum, or search for dual booting.
I tried doing what you're looking to do a while back, and it's not worth the hastle. I found that one OS would work but not the other, and when I got the other to work, the first wouldn't! 98 isn;t so bad, as you can go into DOS, but if you mess up XP, it's a real pain in the arse to fix.
You might get away with disconnecting the XP drive, do a clean install of 98, then run the XP upgrade program and select install in new drive. Then when you get into the XP install program, select the options to install over an existing one, which would hopefully keep your settings. This may work.
Just make sure that 1, you back everything up (there's a really good program for backing up your Outlook Express stuff, btw, Express Assistant.....backs up all your e-mails, address, favourites, etc), and you must remember that Windows 98 must be on the first drive (ie C, with XP on D, E........)
I hardly use 98, but feel much happier having it available for maintenance, etc if XP messes up. I get the odd thing I can't delete in XP, and can;t always defrag fully, so go into 98 to sort it out. ;)
