How do I get the sound icon on the task bar?
And how do i restore backed up email? I have them as dbx files . I am running outlook express and they were compacted by outlook express.

Control pannel -> sound -> tick the box

I don't think XP backs up e-mail (i recently lost 5 years worth of e-mail). It compacts them, they are still there they just take up less space.

I only outlook express for news but I have kept old dbx files by doing this:

Put all your old dbx files in a new directory and then go to outlook express and alter the mailbox directory to point to the new one - tools, maintenance,store folder - it says something like "messages found - do you want to use them" ok to that and should be ok.

Note it safest to do this before you've started to run outlook as once it replaced the old dbx files with empty new ones. Therefore make a second copy of dbx files first in case it goes wrong.
