Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware

I recently bought the "GeForce 5500x" and instaled it, but once I did so my Cd-Driver stopped working. I tried to re-install it through "Add hardware", but the following message appeared: " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".

P.s
I've tried to reconnect the wires to the driver sevral times.
When I start the pc the driver's light blinks, as if it recoginzes the driver...

Please help

If running XP go into Device Manager and delete the cd drive, then reboot for XP to install fresh drivers.

I've tried that, but even after I did so the computer shows that I have a Cd-driver connected even though there is no driver connected.

Try going into the BIOS and looking to see if a ROM drive is detected there when there is not a ROM drive installed, if so try disabling it, reboot and now see if the drive is not now shown by XP.

If it is XP has become corrupted, so try a format and reinstall.

If not try installing the ROM drive at boot up go into the BIOS and get the BIOS to now recognise the ROM drive, reboot and check the drive in XP.

If the BIOS shows that there is no ROM drive detected but XP says there is, again i would do a format and reinstall of XP.
