CD Serial Number & COPY Protection
Hi All,

If you copy a CD is the Serial number of the original copied onto the blank copy CD or will it have its own which cannot be changed ?

I am putting a bit of software onto CD and though If I take the Serial Number of the Blank CD first, run it through a list of algorithms to change it and right that file onto the CD along with the program. Then In the program registration read that file from the CD. I then have the the reverse set of algorithms to translate back to the original CD Serial number. I can then use this to check the serial number recorded in the file is the same as that on the actual CD, if it isn't its an illegal copy.

Do you think this will work ?

As far as I know
The serial is always copied across....has been on everything I've backed up, anyway
