problem installing win98 on elonex laptop [elonex; savannah; win98]

I'm trying to install windows98 on an elonex savannah laptop (I know nothing about laptops) after getting fatal exception errors all the time i disabled the floppy drive in bios and this stopped but everytime i get to the last bit where it says setting up start menu and program shortcuts it just freezes and i have to turn it off, it goes straight back to this and gets stuck again....i can load it up if i go in in safe mode.

also I formatted the disk before installing win98.

any ideas what i can do?

Greetings Tinea, :)

You probably have a driver problem if it works okay in safemode. It could also be intermittent faulty hardware.

Does it do this after you install W98 on a formatted disk, or later when other programs are added?

The way to track it down it to get the exact details of the error. All those numbers will enable someone to identify the culprit.

i don't get any error messages anymore it just freezes at the last bit of the installation, and yes this is happening on a freshly formatted disk with nothing installed as i can't even get windows installed!

It's probably faulty hardware.

It would be good if you had another PC to test everything on.

Try removing everything on the machine you don't need and see if you can install it.

Do you have another hard drive you can try?

i know nothing about removing stuff from laptops, i wouldn't know where to begin.....it was running before i formatted it

i've removed the pcmcia card or whatever it's called and the floppy shares the same space as the cd-rom so the floppy isn't in...still no joy
